Its a Student License
This is exactly the same product Microsoft have been selling since Office 97/Windows 95 student licenses, they've changed the name to Student/Teacher License because they allow teachers to buy the licenses too now. It's the license for home use by any student or teacher, you used to have to get a form signed by your teacher to say you were a student. This is the official page relating to student licenses :

Excellent Value
This academic priced upgrade is exceptional value if you want to upgrade from Windows 98SE / Windows Millenium / Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Home, especially if you are wary about the new Vista operating system.
Either a direct upgrade or a clean install can be done with this disk.
If you still feel you'd prefer Vista, there is an academic priced retail upgrade version of Windows Vista Home Premium available, although sadly not seemingly currently available from Amazon.
You CAN buy this if you're a student
Well, that's what Microsoft say at http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/how-to-buy/who-can-buy/ - "Full and Part Time Matriculated Students of an Educational Institution as defined in A (i) and Full Time Matriculated Students of an Educational Institution as defined in A (ii)"
