An excellent phone5
As a Nokia user for many years, I felt torn between getting this phone and one of the new samsung's, D900 et al. Whilst I feel that the Samsungs are nicer looking phones, Nokias have always been the easier to use. This is proven again in the 6288. It's best feature has to be the screen, it is massive, well lit, and gives remarkable detail. The sliding mechanism also feels very nice, and the 2MP camera is ample for a mobile phone camera. If I want 5MP or more, I'll use my digital camera! The keys are big enough to not cause any aggro, and the menus are simple to navigate through quickly. Also, the onboard radio is superb!

Whilst it is chunky, it still has that classic Nokia look/feel to it. With regards to battery life, I haven't had major problems with it, but then again I'm not on it all day long! Even if the battery does wear down, shock horror, charge it! Big deal!

A great, reliable phone.

Excellent keyboard, great slider5
Nokia does it again with this new 6288. The slider mechanism is perfect and the menu navigation is great. The screen is a very good size and you can control almost all the menu (except typing a text message) without opening the slider. The navigation keys are also nicely spaced and clutter free compared to the ones on other phones. The battery lasts about 3 days for an average use-which is standard on most of the new media phones.
The phone is not exactly slim compared to the samsung range, but has a nice feel while holding it. The radio is great as always with Nokia phones.

The worst phone I have ever owned1
I went on contract as it was cheaper than pay as you go and the Nokia 6288 seemed a smart, easy to use phone. I have up to now had 3 of the things (replaced under waranty with the Carphone Warehouse) and each one is the same.
The battery standby time is 1-2 days, my old Nokia would last at least 5. Without a memory card it will only hold about 6 sent and 6 received texts before prompting you to delete something as the memory is full.
The phone regularly locks up when trying to send texts and the only way to cure this is to remove the battery and replace it again.
My advice to anyone would be to steer well clear.
