Good looks... but is it worth it?
I've had my Nokia N81 8GB for about 3 weeks now. It looks very nice and expensive. The speakers are loud. The quality of sound is alright. You will be pleased with the size of memory.
Overall, the phone is extremely user friendly and you won't really be needing your user manual too much. Anyone who is already familiar with Nokia phones, will appreciate that they are probably still one of the best in terms of user friendly interface.
The problem with this particular phone is that it makes a strange rattling noise (and no, it's not just my particular phone. If you look at other reviews on the Internet, you will find that it's a common occurrence). It also makes a bizzarre creaking noise when you slide it upwards as well as similar but quieter creaking when you press the numbers on your keypad. I have to admit you probably won't hear any of these noises if you mostly use your phone in a fairly noisy environment such as shopping centres but try it anywhere quiet and it's all there.
Strangely enough despite this, there appears to be nothing wrong with the phone itself. It does what it says on the tin just like Ronseal :) but frankly you don't expect your phone to feel like a cheap plastic toy from China when you pay this kind of money for it.
Hope this was useful.
Another great Nokia!
Nokia have done it again!
Their N81 8GB not only has substantial storage space for your MP3s/AACs, but is robust, stylish, easy-to-use, has a relatively good camera, and good battery life.
This phone features a good size display, and extra function keys for games and media at the earpiece. The use of dedicated music function keys improves this phone's use as a media player quite substantially, and I have also found it fantastic for connecting via AUX lead to my car stereo, too!
The speakers are fantastic on this handset, although you need to watch that you don't play your music too loud and distorting it!
The ability to unlock the keypad from the slide key at the top of the phone is brilliant for the occasions when you need to control the handset without sliding the numeric keypad open.
The Wi-Fi functionality is good when you need it, but you do need to decide whether you want to enable Wi-Fi searching, or save your battery!
Overall a well-built, robust, good quality, stylish handset, particularly good for those who like dual function handsets for their music! Certainly haven't had any problems at all with instability when the handset is extended, or weird noises from the sliding mechanism!!!
Looks good but doesn't perform as good
This is a very attractive looking phone, it looks very expensive and is also very well designed. The memory on the phone is excellent and also the audio quality. The phone has a 2 mega pixel camera which performs ok, however you would expect a phone like this to have a much better quality camera. The downside to the phone is the slide mechanism which tends to wobble and generally feels that it has not been secured to the bottom section of the phone properly. It is also quite heavy and bulky to carry around in your pocket.
