Manufacturer's Description
Nokia's new 6500 Slide, one of two newly introduced 6500 series feature phones, is a brushed stainless steel clad slider phone that sports a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera equipped with Carl Zeiss optics. Its stainless steel parts have been coated with a hard protective material to keep the stainless free of scratches, scuffs, and fingerprints. Other core features on this media-centric device include an FM radio, a music player, and a microSD memory card slot that can support the newer 4GB cards that are starting to become available. There is even a forward-facing low resolution camera hidden away in the earpiece on the front of the device that can be used for 3G video calling.
The 6500 Slide is equipped with a unique configuration of dual-band UMTS support on top of its more conventional quad-band GSM/EDGE support. This slider handset supports the normal 2100MHz band used in Europe and much of the rest of the world, as well as one of the two North American UMTS bands: 850MHz. This means that the 6500 Slide should be able to connect to just about any GSM network, and manage 3G UMTS connections in most parts of the world, where available, as well.
Other features of note on the 6500 Slide include Bluetooth, a TV output connection, and the ability to record VGA resolution video clips. Like the other two devices released today by Nokia, the 6500 Slide uses the new micro-USB connector for charging, headsets, and data connectivity.

Compact phone and easy to use!
I have one of these Nokia 6500 slides on an Orange contract and must say that I really love this phone! It's easy to use and has great features packed into a small handset. I had upgraded from my ancient Nokia 6630 which was starting to die on me at times. I was a bit wary as I'd never had a slide phone before but I'm more than pleased with this one. It's unbelievably small and the memory can be expanded up to 4gb on a micro SD card.
The speakers are stereo so sound quality is really good. Battery life is fairly good, bluetooth is quick and with a 3.2 megalpixel camera photos are of a nice quality. The camera lens is by Karl Zeiss so you know you've got quality.
Menus are easy to navigate with Nokia's easy interface. The phone is also quad-band and 3G enabled and also has an offline mode so it can be used in an areoplane. What I most like about this phone is that the casing on the back is stainless steel and makes the phone more solid and robust than its plastic counterparts.
Overall, highly recommended. Simple, easy to use and great value for money if you want something solid and robust.
10/10!
A brilliantly simple yet clever phone.....
I have had this phone since the week of its release (early Dec 2007) on an Orange contract. It is, without a doubt one of the best phones I've ever used. Even my father, who has had almost every nokia N series phone so far (he seems to get far too many upgrades) has commented on it. claiming it does almost everything he uses his "mobile computer" of an N95 for. The best thing about this phone is that it is simple to work and uses the series 40 OS so is less likely to crash or fail like the N series.
The photos are fantastic, and i have even printed a few. The music player is great, and sound quality is excellent. One thing that did annoy me is that there was no headphone adapter included in the box so i had to hunt for one to enable me to use my own headphones. (the included ones aren't that great). The phone is incredibly simple and makes the common tasks of texting and making calls easy.
There is one thing to mention though, after having had a replacement phone after it failed to recognise when it was slid open or shut (the buttons underneath the screen failed to work sometimes also). I have been having problems with the phone making calls and logging on to the network. I have complained to orange who are "looking into it" but have so far not solved anything. It could be a network problem in my area but I have had to switch the phone to GSM mode in order to make and receive calls.
Otherwise this is a fantastic phone and these problems are hopefully a rare occurence.
Exceptional Average
This phone is perfect for those who simply want a functional phone packed in to a beatifully designed handset.
Unfortunately, for those who are used to some of the more advanced features found on the NSeries phones, then this handset is not for you.
The sound quality is good but not on par with the N73's,80's or 95's.
The delay in answering calls by sliding down the phone is about 3-5 seconds which can be very annoying.
The sound clarity of calls can vary a lot. My experience with the phone on Orange has been poor, with voices sounding muffled and most certainly nowhere as clear as the sound quality on the N80, which is the phone I currently use on '3' (a superior network to Orange, I should add).
The absolute best thing about this phone however is the battery life, which enabled to me to use it continuously for 5 days.
By no means a bad phone, on the contrary the 6500 is a very good phone, but simply could have been better or at least on par with its NSeries siblings.
