Good reference but lacking
This is an informative book. Especially about basic plant & tree care. However, it seems some things are kept in the ancient chinese secret catagory. Such as shaping. It goes into certain subjects lightly and then says you need a basic understanding of the tree that you are working with, it's characteristics etc. These characteristics you must get from another book or 30 years of experience I guess.

Chinese Style Penjing is the first of the major refinements of the art including stone landscape plantings. Dr Liang serves us well .
A must have for beginners and experts alike!
I have been cultivating and growing Bonsai for 6 years. Although I am not new to this "living Art" I learned a great deal from Dr. Liang who gave such profound insight from her many years of practice. This book is a wonderful reference tool for soil and watering regimines, repotting as well as style designs and tips on the whole picture a Bonsai portrays. From pot selection to choosing stock, to ornament placement. She has truly unique work and her expertise shows is this book that is very pleasurable to look at as well as read.
