Worth The Money4
Kev Roberts has been around the Soul scene for a good few years, and is also author of the book "The Northern Soul Top 500", with that kind of background you would expect a great sounding compilation and good inner sleeve notes, you get 1 out of 2 here, a great collection of tunes, 50 in fact and for a bargain, unfortunately the inner sleeve notes are just a track listing. I suppose the tunes are more important, but with the research Kev has undertaken compiling his top 500, an additional couple of lines on track and artist would have rounded the package of nicely.

Onto the music I rate side one the better of the two, it starts off with a cracker in Alfie Davison, then moves onto other classics like Magic Night, Archie Bell, J J Barnes, Chuck Jackson, L J Johnson, Chairmen of the Board, Doni Burdock, Luther Ingram, Darrell Banks, Jimmy Soul Clarke and Rose Batisite. This is maybe the reason why I like side one better because its just one hit after another and familiar tunes a lot of these are available on other compilations.

As a relatively newcomer to Northern this CD is the next progression from Virgins The Greatest Northern Soul All Nighter Ever, The In Crowd and Crimson's This is Northern Soul

All in all well worth a tenner and rates 4 stars
