Basic camera case offers decent protection
I bought this for my Canon 400D and all in all it's not bad.

The case comes in two portions, one section fits around the camera body's base and screws into it using the tripod mounting. The other section then fits over the top of the camera and attches to the 'screwed on' bit via a press stud and srip of velcro - it's secure once it's on.

The only fiddly bit can be unscrewing the base section of the case to remove it when you want to put the camera on a tripod. Always make sure you have a two pence piece handy to act as the screw driver as it can be a right pain to do with your fingers alone and you probably won't want to be applying too much pressure to the camera body whilst trying to hold it in place as you unscrew it.

There's space in the case for longer lenses than the kit lens. I currently have Canon's 28-105 lens on and it fits in the case no problem. Obviously it won't take large zoom lenses!

I think the case offers decent physical/dust protection and should you *heaven forbid* drop your camera, certainly from hand held height, I think it would be quite unlucky for you to suffer any major damage.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had something more in the way of actual padding inside but as it is it's a functional case that does the basics.

Mixed Feelings
I always buy camera cases to protect my cameras. This case is probably the most compact you can get for an SLR, mine is the 350D and the cost of its compact nature is that it is fiddly to attach.

The case comes in two parts, a bottom half, which is attached permanently to the camera via the tripod screw thread, the plastic screw is too short and difficult to engage (however it is possible with fingers and no tool); the upper part pops onto the lower part via a popper and pulls over the front of the camera attaching at the top of the lower part via velcro strips, its not a good seal but will offer some protection against the elements and keeps the dust off and will protect from knocks. It has some reinforcement to protect the camera and the case is made from leather with a soft flock type lining.

One criticism is that the lower part has not been designed to allow you to access the battery compartment and the memory card with the lower cover in place. Subsequently you have to remove it a lot and this involves interacting with the plastic screw that is not long enough.

In summary: it does it job of protecting the camera well, but seems like an after-thought in the design process and it could have been done better.

Poor design
I bought this case as I liked the fact that it was compact. I had cases of the same style for my old film cameras and I've always been very happy with them. I'm not very fond of bulky cases with lots of pockets and padding, I normally like to carry my camera in a shoulder bag, at hand for when I want to take a shot, so I just wanted some protection against scratching and dust.

I got it some weeks ago and I've been using it in a trip to Paris. Unfortunately I soon became very disappointed with it. It's just too fiddly to use. The case consists of two parts: one which covers the lens and the front of the camera and the other which gets attached to the body through a plastic screw which fits into the tripod mount. They attach to each other through not one or two but three elements: two press studs and one velcro strap.

Every time you want to take a picture, taking the front part of the case off is a big hassle. One of the poppers is really hard to unclip, so I ended up leaving it open all the time. The part of the case that attaches to the camera has also been poorly designed. It hardly covers the body at all, just the basis and the side with the usb connections. Annoyingly, on the other side it just sticks up a centimeter or so, enough to prevent you from opening the CF compartment with the case on.

On the positive side, the case is solid and looks well built. The plastic screw is easy to do and undo with fingers only. It's probably a good buy if you just want some very compact case to protect the camera while you carry it inside your luggage or backpack. However, if what you want is quick access to the camera, look somewhere else.
