Well-known writer/photographer Jon Sparks has teamed up with Trail magazine's Tom Hutton and ace photographer Jerry Rawson to produce a follow up to the best-selling Scrambles & Easy Climbs in the Lake District, the book that bridged the gap between scrambling and climbing By linking scrambles and easy climbs (up to V Diff) it opens up a host of immensely satisfying days out, most of which end up on a summit or a ridge. There's helpful advice on many vital matters: how to get started and how to progress; the best routes for beginners; routes that are safe in the wet, and routes to avoid; not forgetting where the best pubs are to round off a great day in the time-honoured fashion. But above all, whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber, this book will show you where to go for great days out on great Snowdonian rock.

Essential reading for a day on the mountains in snowdonia
This book is a must for any climber/scrambler who wants to explore Snowdonia. The writers have collected so much information on how to plan a day out on the rock of north wales. Descriptions are provided on how to link together various scrambles and easy multi-pitch climbs, and they give you a real inspiration to go out there and try the routes.
My only quibble would be on the detail of the diagrams for the multi-pitch climbs, in the age of digital photography, colour photos with belay positions highlighted would be v.useful.
Even with this issue, it's still a brilliant book. Enjoy!
THE essential guide for Snowdonic starters!
Having experienced many of Snowdonia's splendors as a youth it was a great day when my 8 year old son decided that the adventure possibilities available in the hills were something that appealed. The dilemma was, 'where to start?' How to bridge the gap from hill walking and indoor climbing to the full 'hands-on rock experience'. This book has made it easy. The enthusiasm and experience of the authors is tangible and the descriptions and illustrations are easily understood and interpreted. The routes described serve as a great intro to the area and activity and the only problem i have is finding the time to get out there. Still- reach for the book and let the enthusiasm and anticipation build....
Essential
I bought this book in Snowdonia and it is incredibly useful. The day I bought it I did Tryfan's North Ridge and Bristly Ridge afterwards on Glyder Fach. These detailed descriptions/diagrams were so helpful and I always have it in my pocket for every trip. Along with a map and compass, this will give you that extra feeling of security on new routes. Minor criticisms are that the rock climbing grade only goes up to V.diff, thereby JUST missing out on showing you the greatest mountain climb in Snowdonia, Grooved Arete on The East Face of Tryfan (graded Hard V Diff) which is essential for any up and coming rock climber. But then again, I guess they rate V. Diff as the last "easy" grade, and they are probably right. Excellent diagrams and descriptions, and more interesting and varied than "Scrambles in Snowdonia", though that is the ultimate "Scramble only" guide.
