Worst To Best Pink Floyd Albums
A Saucerful of SecretsA Saucerful of Secrets by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.43
Heard it once. Never bothered with it again. Band groping for a direction & coming up blank. Sounds very dated. Only one good song at the end - by Syd Barrett without the band.
A Momentary Lapse of Reason [Original Recording Remastered]A Momentary Lapse of Reason [Original Recording Remastered] by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £10.48 / Used from: £3.35
Uninspired album. I played it quite a bit. Now can't remember any of the tracks that aren't on the Echoes Best Of. Poor songwriting. Learning To Fly and Sorrow are the only decent tracks.
RelicsRelics by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £7.48 / Used from: £4.50
Not good but some of it's okay. Some of the rare to find tracks are enjoyable. Careful With That Axe, Eugene is interesting if over-rated. Nile Song is PF playing heavy metal!
Atom Heart MotherAtom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £10.38 / Used from: £5.84
23 minute title track has something to offer (at half the length it might even be enjoyable). Middle of the album isn't too good. Last 13 minute track is awful - without sound effects it might be okay
Delicate Sound of ThunderDelicate Sound of Thunder by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £15.38 / Used from: £5.75
Not enough classics played live. Also sounds oddly dated. Pulse is superior to this release & longer.
Obscured by CloudsObscured by Clouds by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £4.49
Some decent pastoral songs. Nothing to get excited about. Neither good or bad. Shame it has such a basic "dry" production as a bit of echo & reverb etc would liven it up in places.
The Division BellThe Division Bell by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £7.48 / Used from: £2.11
Dull. I've heard it twice & never thought it was worth listening to again. All the decent tracks, excluding What Do You Want From Me which is on Pulse, are on the Echoes Best Of.
The Final CutThe Final Cut by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £4.45
Musically it sucks as it's way too wordy. Lyrically it's too scattershot to work as a concept. Though I do think it's better than some people say it is.
The Piper at the Gates of DawnThe Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd
Buy used from: £3.28
When it's good it's great. The bad stuff is very bad. Barrett is over rated. All the good stuff is on the Echoes Best Of. I hate the instrumentals.
MeddleMeddle by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £4.00
Echoes at first seemed to take forever to go nowhere. Now sounds lovely as an ambient work out with added guitar freak-outs. Shame most tracks are filler. Takes a few listens to like.
Is There Anybody Out There? Is There Anybody Out There? by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £12.78 / Used from: £8.95
The greatest album ever recorded now played live. Not essential but enjoyable anyway. Not a lot of differences to the studio album. People who don't like the studio album seem to enjoy this version.
PulsePulse by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £12.58 / Used from: £6.99
The classics played live. Shame about the Gilmour era songs but at least there's none on disc 2. Dark Side is very faithful to the studio album.
AnimalsAnimals by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £10.58 / Used from: £5.52
Took a lot of listens to like it. Not great but satisfying once it clicks. Not a big fan of the 10 minute song "Pigs (Three Different Ones)". The concept doesn't quite make enough sense to work.
The Dark Side of the MoonThe Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £7.08 / Used from: £4.70
One classic song after another. Everything flows together with various layers of music on top of each other. Great songwriting & wonderful production.
Wish You Were HereWish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £6.39
Uniquely cold but soulful jazz-rock dynamics on Shine On. The most consistent album ever recorded. Every track is great. Have A Cigar is a personal favourite.
The WallThe Wall by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £6.50
Musically not very pretty but pay attention to the dark depressing story and it will blow you away. My favourite album of all time.
Echoes (The Best of Pink Floyd)Echoes (The Best of Pink Floyd) by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £2.99
The bible for music. Only track missing is Run Like Hell. Not too many Gilmour era tracks. Anything good Syd Barrett recorded is on here. One classic after another.
The Definitive Collection (2CD)The Definitive Collection (2CD) by Alan Parsons Project
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.49
Dark Side engineer went on to have a recording career. Continues were Dark Side left off - immaculately produced conceptual prog rock. Consistently good music & lyrics with an orchestra on most tracks
In the Flesh LiveIn the Flesh Live by Roger Waters
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £4.20
Guitarists don't copy Gilmour EXACTLY. If you're not a musicologist, who cares? All sounds the same to me. Lyrics are given priority & I like the female backing vocals. Almost as good as Pulse on CD.
Roger Waters - In The Flesh - Live [DVD] [2001]Roger Waters - In The Flesh - Live [DVD] [2001]
Buy new: £5.48 / Used from: £9.00
Much, much better than Pulse on DVD. Vocals are very clear which I like. Shame Shine On is butchered. Rest of the songs are fine. Only 5 solo songs at the end so can be ignored.
Pink Floyd - Pulse (Two Discs) (DVD) [2006]Pink Floyd - Pulse (Two Discs) (DVD) [2006]
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £10.99
Good music, bad DVD. Filmed miles from the stage & band ignored in favour of the visual effects. Not good if you want to see them play their instruments. Also poor extras.
Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii [DVD] [1972]Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii [DVD] [1972]
Buy new: £14.98 / Used from: £88.00
Very atmospheric but very badly filmed. Music is boring & mostly instrumental. If you love this PF era then you might like it. Echoes is boring with your eyes open.Interesting Abbey Rd studio footage.
Pink Floyd - The Wall (Limited Edition) [DVD] [1982]Pink Floyd - The Wall (Limited Edition) [DVD] [1982]
Buy new: £13.69 / Used from: £11.65
Album works great as a film. Arresting images every few minutes, all stylishly filmed. Very depressing overall mood. Shame Geldof sings two tracks but he's a good actor. Brilliant informative extras.
Flickering Flame - The Solo Years Volume 1Flickering Flame - The Solo Years Volume 1 by Roger Waters
Buy new: £18.49 / Used from: £7.18
Overlong, musically unappealing tracks. Songs too wordy & Waters whispers all the lyrics. Strange song selection & sequencing. His talent for words dried up after The Wall.
The "Pink Floyd" Odyssey: Saucerful of SecretsThe "Pink Floyd" Odyssey: Saucerful of Secrets by Nicholas Schaffner
Buy new: £7.60 / Used from: £4.20
Very detailed biography. Barrett era doesn't dominate, mostly about the Waters era. Plenty of pages about them fighting for control of the band. Good stuff on the writing & recording of all the albums
