    Great machine5
But i would advise you to spend another £38 and get the N280 processer model.

Over and above this model, as well as the very slightly better processor, you get a better battery, better webcam, a protective sleeve and internal bluetooth ... not bad for £38.

This was a 'spur of the moment' purchase from pc world ... not 'that' spur, as i needed one, but i definately regret not getting the better model.

That said it is an excellent machine. I just upgraded from an acer aspire one 9" and the slightly bigger screen makes all the difference.

The advertised battery life is 8.5 hrs (as opposed to the other models 10.5) which is amazing ... and should be a big consideration if you look at the price of spare batteries and larger capacity batteries. With this netbook maybe you wont need a spare. I reckon you should get 5 to 6 hrs out of this model, browsing etc with moderate power settings

I also looked at the samsung n110 and nc10, the dell mini 10v, the advent and the MSI Wind. The samsung, while nice, is more expensive and doesnt have wireless n ... another nice feature of this netbook.

The features of the N280 model are unmatched at its price, and indeed most of the more expensive models ... the only thing it is missing is internal 3g ... although there is a 1005GO in other parts of the world which does have it

Niggles are that it is a finger print magnet ... but all netbooks seem to be going this way ... and the touchpad wont be to everyones liking ... it works great but it has no defining borders, just a different texture ... and so can be difficult to find if you are looking at the screen ... but im sure that will become natural in time

Overall, for features vs price I think this is the best value netbook there is ... and as the main internals of all netbooks is almost identical, performance is too.

Memory is a cinch too upgrade too, but amazingly ive read you void your warantee if you do ... which is incredibly stupid, so i would confirm this yourself if you are worried, as i am not sure if it is true myself

Genuine value for money, a revelation4
I bought the EeePC this last week after my old Thinkpad finally died.
After checking all the netbook reviews on line and in a couple of UK magazines it seems Asus started the whole netbook thing, so why not stay with the experts?
It is a remarkable piece of kit. Windows XP is easy to use, we all know it, and you don't need any more and I'm assured by those nice geeky fellas on the net that I can speed up the OS with a few tweaks should I need to.
    But you won't.
OK, the screen is still smallish but for web browsing you need nothing else, it's easily fast enough. Firefox is my browser of choice. Google Chrome I loaded last night... it is probably better.
Remember keep it simple. Check out the 'make your XP run faster' tips on the net, do what people say and this thing's a real slick piece of kit.
Picture quality is excellent, it runs Youtube vids without any jumping, even in full screen, and BBC's iPlayer works brilliantly too. I connected to my BT home wireless connection in a minute (just take the ref number from the back of the wireless box) and er... that's it.
This is brilliant. It's attractive neat design is something a bit special and the little Eee looks like it could be a piece of Apple kit (I bought a white one) and the neat 'press F9 three times to return to factory settings' offers peace of mind for those of us who can't be bothered with too much fine tuning.
And here's the real performance proof: I bought Eidos Football Manager 2010 on line two months ago. It downloaded and - to my amazement and son's delight - runs perfectly on the EeePc, despite the claimed much higher chip and graphics demands of the manufacturer.
So, consider what do you really need from your lap top?
I really don't care that they may be faster machines, if they are Microsoft will just burden them with more stupid OS software to slow it down (yes, I have suffered Vista elsewhere already)
I'm a journalist and have suffered a variety of keyboards over more than 20 years. This one is good enough. The touchpad mouse works well and is very like the old IBM Thinkpad machine I used, but you can always pick up a cheap i-red mouse for a few quid if it really bothers you.
I am genuinely impressed. with the little EeePC 1005 HA (and still unsure whether the N280 chipped HAH is 30 quid better).. and it seems to be a bargain.
If nothing else, you will not be disappointed and if you want a bigger screen, you can of course plug in a monitor.

concerned about hardware problem and warranties3
I purchased the Asus EEE 1005 N270 from the high street last week, and have loved it, as it's small, portable, great battery life, XP works well, and it boots quickly.

However I cannot give it 5 stars because 3 days ago it would power off instead of booting. After a day of this, I put it back in the box and was ready to take it back to the store. Now I've just tested it and it powers and boots up fine! I'm really concerned about this potential hardware problem and will be thinking of getting another model from another manufacturer.

It's a shame as there's nothing that beats the Eee's battery life, and I desperately need a PC.
