Product Description

Growing up in the shadow of her dead mother, the infamous Anne Boleyn, young Princess Elizabeth has learnt to be continuously on the watch for the political games played out around her. It is never certain when one might rise in, or precariously fall out of, royal favour. When her distant father, Henry VIII, dies, the future brightens for Elizabeth. She is able to set up a home with Henry's last wife, Katherine Parr, who now has a new husband, Tom Seymour. Tom, however, is playing a risky game. Marrying a widowed queen is one thing, flirting with the King's daughter and second in line to the throne is another. As the adolescent Elizabeth finds herself dangerously attracted to him, danger encroaches upon herself and the kingdom...This first book of Irwin's historical trilogy about the life of 'Good Queen Bess' confirms the author's status as one of the most successful historical writers of the last century.

Different...special5
Much better than most of the Tudor industry tripe. Her prose is beautiful, perfect and strangely evocative. Read this when I was a wee bairn. It stands up twenty years later. Read the whole trilogy, you won't regret it!

great start to the trilogy!5
I adored this book from start to finish! It's an easy-to-read book with a flow of words that makes it extremely enjoyable. It definately made me want to get the other two in this series. Believe me they are well worth buying, not just ordering from the library!

wonderful5
a look at Queen elizabeth's life as a child and teenager. starting just before Henry VIII death and ends when she is aged about 19/20. written in a romantic style rather than some other historical books which are a bit factual in style. very interesting period in Elizabeth life as she shows the strength of character and opinion she would been known for as queen when is a child. not a period i know anything about so was interesting to read something new about her.
