Product Description

'Everton's Z-Stars, the men who made history 1984-1987' tells the story of the most successful era in the club's history.

It has been compiled by former Liverpool Echo sports editor Ken Rogers.

He was the man who travelled home and away with the Blues throughout the glorious Eighties as two Championships, the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup were secured by the most successful Everton manager of all-time, Howard Kendall.

Rogers is presently Executive Editor of the Trinity Mirror Sport Media football unit. He has selected 19 eventful match reports encapsulating that glorious spell when the Mersey Blues were the Kings of English football. These games are not all trophy-winning days. They include milestone moments along the way like the Coventry City Milk Cup triumph at Goodison Park that unfolded in front of just 9,000 fans. Defeat in that game could have seen boss Howard Kendall sacked with leaflets circulating in the city calling for the head of the manager and his chairman Philip Carter.

Such is the narrow line between success and failure. Everton scrambled through, those leaflets were ripped to shreds and Kendall and his men embarked on a sensational journey in which heroes like Andy Gray, Graeme Sharp, Peter Reid and Neville Southall inspired victory after victory as history was made.

Games like the legenedary Bayern Munich Cup Winners Cup semi-final are re-lived. That victory proved to Kendall that his team could match anyone in the world.

Four remarkable campaigns are covered, complete with relevant statistics. Each year has its own scent-setting introduction and every match has a fascinating 'Inside The Dressing Room' analysis from boss Kendall. It is a fascinating insight into a golden Everton era, a time when they could afford to sell the greatest striker in the country at that time, Gary Lineker, and still move forward to win another title!

Kendall completes the book with his 'A-Z' analysis of every major player who starred for him at that time.

This book will stir the souls of the Evertonians who revelled in that four-year spell of dominance and who will never forget the 'Z-Stars' who gave them so much to shout about.

About the Author
Ken Rogers was chosen to write the official centenary history of Goodison Park in 1992 and so well received was 'Goodison Glory' that it was updated and re-printed in 1998 and 2000 when the section on Everton's Millennium Giants was added.

He also penned 'Everton Greats' which was a personal salute to some of the Goodison legends he had reported on and interviewed down the years.

Now this 'Z-Stars' publication revives the memories of the mid-Eighties.
