A good system for an exciting setting.5
The system is similar to others seen before, a points buy character creation system costing 6points to have a d6 to roll for an ability or skill.
Modify your points with Assets or Complications (modifiers to rolls) and you have a well rounded character with a personality, ready to play.
Also included are the ships and crews of Serenity and Aces & Eights, to jump right into the action with your favourites or a new, but fun to play crew.
My favourite bit as a GamesMaster was to create a brand new ship, which acts as a seperate character than just its crew, and crew it with flawed heros, just trying to survive.
To do anything a difficulty number is used and you roll one dice for an ability, eg d6 Strength, and one for a skill, eg d10 Intimidate, if the total of those dice equal or beat the difficulty number then you succeed.
Easy for GamesMasters to run, very fun and easy for RolePlayers to play.
Highly recommended for Serenity/Firefly fans and recommended for people bored with d20/d10 systems.
Good Job Joss!

Gorram excellent!5
As a roleplayer and a fan of Joss Whedon's excellent series 'Firefly' and the Big Damn Movie I found this book useful and very interesting.

The rule system is extremely easy to get used to and can easily be understood by both new and experienced players. Rather than useing a fixed dice, which usually characterises an RPG (such as D20 (D&D) or D100 (stormbringer)) the dice changes depending on how good a characte is at doing something. As an example, a character who is a gunfighter may have D6 in guns and D10 in pistols as a specialisation. A character who is bad with the guns skill may however only have a D4 (compotent) in the skill. Character generation is also very simple and full statistics of the crew of 'Serenity' are included.

The background information given on the 'verse is also very good and interesting. As is the artwork and the book itself is set out very clearly.

All in all it is prety damn shiny.

There's a Whole Other 'Verse Out There5
Ni how, shwie. Enjoyed the movie? Fan of the series? Wu toh wu now! (yes, a TV series of 14 episodes, available on DVD). Want to know what all the Chinese cussing was about? Mei wen ti!
The Role Playing Game lets you into Serenity's 'Verse - become a part of it, re-write the story or create your own. Includes data on all the planets and a Chinese lexicon (doesn't say which dialect though - da shiong la se la ch'wohn tahn).
I've read and played every major game-system and a few minor. The Serenity system is by far the easiest and most satisfying way of allowing a group of friends to be part of their favourite genre.
