If you already have one or two shareholdings, or you are considering shares for the first time, this book will show you how these fascinating and versatile investments can help you achieve your financial ambitions. It covers: the role of shares in financial planning; how to buy and sell shares in the high street, through a traditional broker, or over the Internet; the range of shares available; risk - and how to turn it to your advantage; how shares are taxed, and how, legitimately, to avoid tax; portfolios for every pocket; the perks that accompany some shares; mastering rights issues, takeover bids, and so on; and how to play the stock market without even buying any shares. This revised edition contains new information on privare share transfers, the taxation of capital gains, share buybacks and special types of share such as "zeros". Customer Reviews
A very good guid to understanding shares
If you are a complete novice - like me- when it comes to shares, this is a very good source of information. It is mostly clearly written, and takes you through most aspects of share-ownership. There are examples of 'cases' to demostrate some of the more complicated concepts. It also has a useful list of contact details.
An excelent overview of shares and dealing, with detail.
As a novice, I found this book invaluable, and compelling reading. All aspects are covered, and much of the mystique has been opened up. I have been searching for just such a book as this for some time. I am sure that this book will be of great value to beginners and experienced amateurs alike. Excelent value, and up to date. This will be used over and over for the forseeable future.
