Product Description

Based on Eric Schlosser's bestselling Fast Food Nation, this is the shocking truth about the fast food industry - how it all began, its success, what fast food actually is, what goes on in the slaughterhouses, meatpacking factories and flavour labs, global advertising, merchandising in UK schools, mass production and the exploitation of young workers in the thousands of fast-food outlets throughout the world. It also takes a look at the effects on the environment and the highly topical issue of obesity. Meticulously researched, lively and informative, with first-hand accounts and quotes from children and young people, Eric Schlosser presents the facts in such a way that allows readers to make up their own minds about the incredible fast food phenomenon.

Customer Reviews

A childrens book4
I have read the other reviews here and the main issue most people have against the book is that it is a reworking of "Fast Food Nation" and it has been dumbed down a fair amount, this is because it is aimed at young teens. If you want an adults perspective of this subject then read Fast Food Nation.

I bought this book with the sole intention of giving it to my children to read (aged 12 and 9) so they understand what is going into their 'favourite' meals. I started reading it and couldnt put it down. Well written, informative and concise. The Authour draws on real life situations that most children can relate to and can empaphise with.

This is not an attack on McDonalds or Coca-cola individually; this book looks at the whole fast food industry, from pre production to consumption. How it treats its employees, the suppliers, the food that ends up on your plastic tray and how it is effecting the health of those who consume it. The underhanded tactics that these multi-national multi-billion dollar industries use to ensure that your 2 or 3 year old becomes a loyal customer, for life!

Like the cigarette industry before it, the fast food industry is knowingly selling a product that is harmful to its customers and as far as I can tell, is really not bothered as long as the money keeps coming!

A real eye opener. A must read for anybody who wants their children to know what they're eating.

Do not make the mistake the other reviewers have made. THIS BOOK IS WRITTEN FOR CHILDREN.

Chew on This: Everything You Don't Want to Know About Fast Food4
I saw Eric Schlosser talking at the Hay Literary Festival this year and this book is a rewrite of Fast Food Nation. It's sole intention is to bring the information to younger readers. This I got from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Chew on this and you'll never eat Junk again5
This an incredibly well researched book - clear, easy to read, and a real eye opener for the naive chomper of Junk Food.
At times it is quite graphic in its detail of the cruelty of our animal industry, but never too much to stop you reading it. It doesn't just concentrate on how bad the actual food served in fast food restaurants is for you, but it also gives you an insight into how the employees are treated, and how the big industries of the world deliberately target audiences, quite literally, from the cradle, to make them life long buyers of their products.
If you have any sort of a conscience, reading this book will be a life changing event for you; I swear, having read this, I will never ever eat in any fastfood restaurant ever again.
