I wish there were more of these books
Every one of the Falkenberg books is good, but this was the one that got me started on Jerry Pournelle's work. It's not high art, or literature, but it is fantastically entertaining, fast-paced, and surprisingly thought provoking. There's a solid backbone of military and political theory and history underpinning the entire series. This is one of the best "future histories" I've ever read.

Totally absorbing
You know that your facing the Convenant Highlander Mercs., and the Friedlander artillery, a they are some of the best. But your part of Falkenberg's Legion ! With traditions dating back to the French Foreign Legion, cool professionalism forged on the anvil of battle, lead by the most brillant military mind alive, you almost feel sorry for them. And when you hear those bagpipes play, you and your comrades run into the battle yelling," It's a good day to die !!".
