My favourite book of all time. Superb characters, plot and writing style. Dark gothic fantasy.
Flowers For Algernon (Gollancz S.F.)Flowers For Algernon (Gollancz S.F.) by Daniel Keyes

A wonderful, soulful story of a man's endeavor to become smarter.
The Stars My Destination (S.F. Masterworks)The Stars My Destination (S.F. Masterworks) by Alfred Bester

Tiger! Tiger! High octane rip-snorting ride fueled by Gully's Foyle's lust for revenge.
Ubik (S.F. Masterworks)Ubik (S.F. Masterworks) by Philip K. Dick
Buy new: £4.48 / Used from: £1.79
I had a bit of a PKD marathon recently, Ubik stood out the most. Clever, innovative and keeps you guessing.
A Scanner Darkly (S.F. Masterworks)A Scanner Darkly (S.F. Masterworks) by Philip K. Dick
Buy new: £4.48 / Used from: £0.60
This is a very slow, dark, paranoid little tale, but is somehow compelling. Can't wait to see the film.
The Man in the High Castle (Penguin Modern Classics)The Man in the High Castle (Penguin Modern Classics) by Philip K. Dick
Buy new: £5.73 / Used from: £2.95
I think this is the most accomplished novel of Dick's. A fantastic concept; Nazis won WWII, and very believable.
The Forever War (S.F. Masterworks)The Forever War (S.F. Masterworks) by Joe Haldeman
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.92
Haldeman's allegorical story about the Vietman War. Very touching in the end and the protagonist is immediately likeable.
I Am Legend (S.F. Masterworks)I Am Legend (S.F. Masterworks) by Richard Matheson
Buy new: £4.48 / Used from: £0.88
An awesome story. It's short, quite fast paced and excellently written. Fantastic ending too. In fact, one of my very faves.
Lord Of Light (S.F. Masterworks)Lord Of Light (S.F. Masterworks) by Roger Zelazny
Buy new: £5.48 / Used from: £0.01
A deep, interesting, mythical novel. Very odd and slow at first but definitely worth percevering with
Starship TroopersStarship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein
Buy new: £5.70 / Used from: £2.85
Not as good as the legends would suggest but 10 times better than the film.
Against a Dark BackgroundAgainst a Dark Background by Iain M. Banks
Buy new: £6.72 / Used from: £0.01
I'm an Iain M. Banks fanatic and I re-read this recently. It's dark, well written but far too long! Go for Consider Phlebas, Use of Weapons or Player of Games first.
The Sirens Of Titan (Gollancz S.F.)The Sirens Of Titan (Gollancz S.F.) by Kurt Vonnegut
Buy new: £5.71 / Used from: £2.79
Supposed to be humorous but wasn't really. Some fantastic ideas and it and it stays with you long afterwards. Worth reading for the ending.
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (Oxford World's Classics)The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (Oxford World's Classics) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Buy new: £7.19 / Used from: £0.01
A classic. Not as good as 'Adventures....' but still brilliant.
Nightfall OneNightfall One by Isaac Asimov
Buy used from: £0.01
5 shorts from the master. I preferred the expanded verson of Nightfall with Silverberg, but still a great story. The other 4 stories are great too.
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The GalaxyThe Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Buy new: £5.49 / Used from: £0.01
Just finished this & I'm not taken with it at all. Made me chuckle a few times but the story is pretty weak. Enjoyed the film a lot more.
Star Maker (S.F. Masterworks)Star Maker (S.F. Masterworks) by Olaf Stapledon
Buy new: £4.48 / Used from: £2.45
On this at the mo. An unbelievable example of the imagination run wild, especially as it was written in 1930s.
The Glamour (Gollancz S.F.)The Glamour (Gollancz S.F.) by Christopher Priest
