Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
The film career of Guy Ritchie has endured a few bumps in recent years, with a collection of generally forgettable films from a man clearly capable of so much more. Thank goodness then for RocknRolla, which marks a smashing return to form, as he heads once more to the criminal underworld of London.

This time, Ritchie is playing far closer to the likes of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and while RocknRolla may see the director playing on safer ground than of late, it doesn’t take long for the decision to be vindicated. The plot surrounds a real-estate job with millions at stake, and it gives ample excuse to unleash a collection of raw gangsters and tough guys into the mix, who each fancy a bit of the action.

Thus, RocknRolla brings together Gerard Butler’s Scottish gangster, Tom Wilkinson’s London crime lord, Toby Kebbell’s drug-addicted musician and the likes of Thandie Newton, Mark Strong and Jeremy Piven too. And Ritchie’s cast serve him really well, making ample mileage out of the lines they’re given.

Granted, all of this is hardly fresh territory for the director, but RocknRolla is nonetheless funny, action-packed and a good British mob film to while away an evening with. Welcome back, Mr Ritchie… --Jon Foster

DVD Description
From Guy Ritchie, the writer/director of the acclaimed films Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, comes RocknRolla, a story of sex, thugs and rock 'n roll.

When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs. And all of London's criminal underworld wants a piece of the action.

Synopsis
In Rocknrolla, London's criminals learn of a scheme that makes them see dollar signs and they'll do anything to pad their pockets with the loot. After Swept Away and the sublime Revolver, director Guy Ritchie is back in the familiar terrain in which he made his name with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells and Snatch. Ritchie populates this action film with memorable characters played by the likes of Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges, Jeremy Piven, Idris Elba, and Tom Wilkinson.

Rocked N Rolled....4
Lately Richie has been a bit Hit N Miss, a few poor movies and people were questioning his directing ability, shame realy as hes still a top notch pioneer in British movie making.

This movie however is an answer to his critics, a great well written fun filled frollick into the British underworld. Much like his earlier hits Lock Stock and Snatch, it mixes violence with comedy and a twisted story to make things more complicated and exciting.

Although its a great watch and good entertainment, its not quite the hit like his earlier movies, several characters are left un-developed like Thandie Newtons, but despite this, it is still a great watch.

Using his dark seedy filming style it captures the grit of England well and his choice of cast is fantastic like always.

Overall its a hugely entertaining movie, definately better than most films out there in or around the same genre.

I OWN THIS TOWN ARCHIE!!3
Yet again Mr Richie has tried to go down the same road as Snatch and Lock Stock the big question is it as good as those. Me personally no it isn't infact it's not in the same league. There was plenty of one liners and funny moments but overall it just lacked the little extra bit to keep you interested. The acting was very good the storyline was clever how it all linked up but don't expect a classic. It is well worth a watch if you like Guy Richie films he will really have to do something special to come up to the standards of the above films mentioned and this has been left wide open for a second outing.

First for me - Guy Ritchie Film5
Unlike many I have never watched a Guy Ritchie film before. it was Gerard Butler who was the magnet for me. Not usually a fan of violence in films or bad language I have to say the Mr Ritchie got it just right.
This film is better for watching more than once. The humour and creativity of all the actors is memorable. Tom Wilkinson has a ball as Lenny Cole and has forever banished the man with the gnomes from the Full Monty. The homesexual sequence is so funny without being perverse. Can you imagine what some directors would have done with that theme? Very clever. Even the violence is humourous and the few sex scenes all but melted into the background of a really funny film.
Everyone should see it. Just don't expect a gangster movie in the typical gangster style!
