Revolution in the Church
Mike Breen has been on my radar for over 10 years but I knew little of his work. This book has changed my perspective on Church to the point where I doubt I can ever go back to the 'inherited Sunday model' that we've been trying to make work for 400 years (not me personally - i'm not that old). If implemented fully the slavish obedience to attending church on Sunday, asking potential converts to come to Church on a Sunday, the passive pew sitting mentality that has developed in congregations and much more will be exposed as aimless, fruitless, and inherently unsustainable.
Rather than start a new initiative or programme to get people 'into church' implement this bottom up approach and you could see explosive growth outside of Church on a Sunday and the Church growing at last because it is relevant to the community it is trying to reach.
This book is a bit like a Sunday church demolition working party. Rather than tidying up the Church yard we are told how to tear down the limiting structures that have constrained the Church for generations, without blame, and more importantly what to replace them with.
If you are a Church Pastor/Vicar/minister I urge you to get this book and read it - but only implement it if you want to change your role for ever.
I loved it - water in a desert and hope for the hopeless. I suspect that Jesus Christ must love this book - it gets right to his heart.
very practical read!
I loved this book... i work on a staff team at a church in america, and i was so thankful to learn so much from the uk churches in this book. this book is very easy to read, and has a lot of helpful things for your church be aware of & evaluate when you consider the theology and practical outworkings of clusters in your church setting. i am telling my friends & coworkers to read this book so we can discuss it & consider together how to apply what we've learned.
