About the Author
Mac's first steps into computing came 19 years ago when he taught himself Basic on a ZX81. He started his first book shortly afterwards, when he realised that (a) programming was fun, and (b) no-one was writing simple books on it. Since then he has programmed in, taught and/or written about 9 varieties of Basic, 3 Pascals, 2 Cs, Assembler, Cobol and Java, 5 spreadsheets, 3 databases, 4 word-processors, and 6 operating systems. He is looking forward to the time when developers stop producing new software and books don't go out of date in a couple of years. Mac can usually be found either in the kitchen or running a taxi service for his family. He lives in Southampton with 4 children, 2 cats and 40 fishes. Customer Reviews

20% wasted paper1
Why do books get written with padding in them? The first chapter of this book is basic accounting technique, good stuff for the beginner. Then there's about 15 pages of how-to-use-windows (e.g. point at a menu item and click stuff). There's a few chapters of watered down Sage manual followed by a chapter on search engines??? Yep, instructions on how to use Excite. Worse than a waste of money.

A real noddy guide - Don't buy if you've got the Users Guide1
... If you've already got the Instant Accounting User's Guide that came with the Software, then you don't need to buy this book - it won't tell you anything new.

TRUE TO ITS TITLE5
I have just bought this straight forward book and am delighted with it. The diagrams, easy structure and crystal clear explanations make it an ideal starter for someone new to Sage.

I'd recommend it particularly to those who do not have time to wade through densely written manuals.
