Manufacturer's Description
Sage Instant Accounts is an easy-to-use bookkeeping system, designed to meet the needs of a wide range of UK companies. The software can be installed to suit your business, enables you to keep track of your cash flow, and puts vital information at your fingertips. Reports provide detailed information about your finances, while the Audit Assistant helps make sure your books balance. Sage Instant Accounts also integrates with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook for further manipulation of data.

Sage Instant Accounts allows you to organise and record your sales and purchases, customer and supplier contacts, invoicing and VAT. The Accounts Analyser gives you an instant snapshot of your financial situation, so you can see where your money comes from and goes to. New Process Maps provide step-by-step guides to help you complete key business tasks, so you always know what to do next. To help you stay on top of your finances, the Bank Reconciliation process allows you to match money recorded in Sage Instant Accounts with your bank statements. You can view and save reconciliations at any time - even part way through, and keep records for future reference.

Sage Instant Accounts helps you to create and customise your quotations then automates the invoicing process, so there's no need to enter the same information twice. Flexible Discounts mean you can apply reductions to individual items and customers or make changes across the board. The Transaction e-mail feature lets you trade electronically, reducing the time and cost involved in placing, receiving and processing orders and invoices. The program also creates your VAT Return, saving you time and ensuring accuracy.

    I actually like it.4
A lot of people dislike SAGE. I have to confess I'm not one of them. I also confess I am an accountant.

As long as you are computer literate and taught how to enter things correctly (which should not cost you that much - find a local bookkeeper and pay them for a couple of hours, it's worth it), this is a very simple program to use. If you don't know much about accounts and you try and work it out yourself, you may well find your accountant charging you more at the end of the year for sorting out some mistakes. It's not user friendly if you don't know what you're doing, I wholeheartedly agree with that.

Once you've got going, keep it simple, and your accountant should love you at the year end. And when you know how to use it, it's quite straight forward.

    Don`t Buy Sage1
I would echo all the previous critisms. I have a copy of Money 95 (a 12 year old programme!) that is better laid out , easier to use(for instance changing the date only requires scrolling up and down the date rather than re-keying the entire date). Another example - Having to enter a supplier invoice on one screen then a payment on another - why all the duplication?. It would be easy to have one and enter all the information and then let some clever software work out where to put the figures. This is really lazy programming, with a lack of customer focus and a poor product. Inertia is the only reason I stick with it, if I was starting again I would look elsewhere.

    Not for me1
My accountant suggested this as a better option than my ageing Quickbooks. I agreed and started to use it. Although ime no accountant I am an Engineer and Maths, Computers etc are my day to day life. Why then is this so complicated and why oh why wont it let you have services or products on an Invoice with a negative value. I need to deduct a training levy from my monthly sales, but it wont.
It will if you spend another £450 and by their Line 50 version. A con by any other name.
