From the Author
A practical guide to a wonderful sport
"There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats". With those words in The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame summed up the lure of sailing. This book is a practical guide to a wonderful sport, and I hope it also reflects the joy of being afloat.

Suitable for beginners3
This book would be ideal for beginners but really isn't suitable for anyone with any degree of sailing experience.

Essential read for anyone beginning sailing4
In my opinion this book is awesome. I recently decided to take up sailing so purchased this book. It is very clearly set out. They author is very informative without trying to baffle you. It is simple to read with excellent diagrams. Would suit adults or children.
I think this is the essential read for anyone taking up sailing !

From dinghy sailing to blue water cruising.5
As the title suggests, this truly is complete. Like the majority of people, my only trips on water came from ferries on a channel crossing! Last year I decided that I wanted to try sailing and bought this book to have some sort of knowledge of the suject before turning up for my course. It proved to be very worth while. As a student on a competant crew members course, I found myself getting stuck in with weather forecasting, navigation and general boat skills (skills that were required for day-skippers). This book is pact with a lot of factual information both in, simple to understand writing and informative and colourful pictures and diagrams. Whether you are a dinghy sailor or an aspiring blue water cruiser, this book will help you to broaden your knowledge base on the subject. I am now about to embark on my coastal skippers course and this still remains my only sailing reference manual, I have not completed any shore-based courses as I have not felt it necessary. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to take up sailing as a hobby, sport or pastime. "ventis secundis"
