Customer Reviews
If only dance music was still THIS cool...
OHMYGOD! I lurve this collection! It's just fantastic. Ok, ok, I know I sound a little over-enthusiastic, but there are some excellent tunes scattered throughout the six discs.
This compilation takes you from 1990 to a few years ago, many of which were chart topping hits in their time. If like me, you like 90's dance music, but don't know the names to most the tunes you like, then I guarantee you'll find them here. As I was listening away, I found myself dancing or humming to every other song, and those I didn't recognise, I loved equally as much as those I did.
I wish I was bit older, cos club music today is not in the same league as this stuff - no way! Today we're stuck with Euro-pop, which is pretty crap, let's face it. For example, just listen to disc 4 and you'll find the unltimate old skool dance classics, Sweet Harmony and on a Ragga Tip (which, if you're a clubber, you might well recognise as both seem to be popular requests at the moment). I just love track 1, Don't Go, on disc 5 as well, it's such a good tune.
If you're looking for Old Skool, then you really have to buy this collection, because it's got everything you're looking for, I swear! From classics like 'You got the love' by the Source to 'U sure do' by Strike, this really does contain the best of the 90's. And with 6 cd's, it's great value considering it's less than a tenner! Sixty top tunes for £9.99? Bargain or what?!
One of the best collections ever!!
I totally agree with Sassygirl who has also reviewed this 6 cd box set Old Skool. Ive been looking around for hours trying to find a collection that has certain old skool tracks on it and can find them only on different cds.
Im going to pick out more or less the same tracks :) as They are truly amazing. Besides the classics of a few years ago like "The Original - I luv u baby" and "Strike - U sure do" you have the early 90's classics like "Awesome 3 - Dont go" which was used by many DJ's at clubs around the country back when it was released notably "Carl Cox at The Edge". Other classics like "SL2 - On a ragga tip" remain perma classics along with "Liquid - Sweet Harmony".
Another banging tune is "Praga Khan - Injected with a Poison" which has been released many times with different mixes but the original has always remained the best. Other memorable tracks fall on to these cd's in the form of "Kicks Like a Mule - The bouncer" the infamous "If your names not down your not coming in..." Line was so popular in clubs for the longest of times.
Last and NEVER least is "The Ratpack" a popular amongst the people who can remember the Fantazia raves. A London based Old Skool cru who never failed to get the party jumping. Buy this cd box set NOW!! I very rarely give a cd 5 out of 5 but this one deserves every mark!!
A major let-down....
What a shame. This could have been a very good set, but two things let it down badly.
Firstly, there are radio edits. Now, with just ten tracks per disc, there is easily enough room for the uncut versions.
Secondly, there are some inferior mixes of what are otherwise excellent tracks. Debbie Malone's late-80s club classic 'Rescue Me' is a case in point. The original was flawless, and stands head and shoulders above any of the updated 90s mixes that were released. Yet here we do indeed get one of those remixes, and the compilation suffers because of it. This is supposed to be "ultimate OLD SKOOL", and putting a newer (and, as I said, inferior) mix on there sort of defeats the purpose of this collection. The alternative mix of Anticappella's anthemic '2/231' only spoils things further.
There are far better 'Old Skool' compilations out there than this one. Avoid.
