Buy new: £17.84 / Used from: £12.00 This is a massive, all-encompassing two volume work with much more information than Hartley - get both the Wenham volumes. Expensive but worth it (secondhand hardback copies can be good value).

Buy new: £9.95 / Used from: £6.50 A pukka novel which goes a long way towards explaining NT theology & history. At last! Short, entertaining, very easy to read and hugely informative.

Buy new: £20.07 / Used from: £9.50 This, or his almost identical (and newly revised) 'Christian Theology: An Introduction'. A great overview of theological development and not too large. Second hand is cheaper but not so up-to-date.
