ENHANCED PANORAMA FUNCTION
For spectacular panorama images on board.

20 SCENE MODES
(e.g. Available Light Portrait, Pre-Capture Movie) ensure the camera has the right settings for different situations.

DUAL FORMAT COMPATIBILITY
Accepts xD-Picture Cards and Micro SD card (via adapter) included in the box.

PERFECT SHOT PREVIEW
Olympus' new Perfect Shot Preview mode stands out among these features as one of the most useful aspects of the camera. This mode lets you preview how your picture will look under four different EV compensation or white balance settings. If you shoot in awkward lighting, Perfect Shot Preview can really help you take a proper shot without a lot of trial-and-error or menu-hunting. You can even preview how movie clips will look at different quality settings and frame-rates, though the highest quality 30fps VGA movie mode will almost always be your best choice.

MOVIE RECORDING WITH SOUND
Liven up your memories with movie recording with sound (up to VGA resolution at 30 fps).

TruePic III IMAGE PROCESSOR
Olympus' newest-generation image processing engine. It automatically enhances important aspects of image quality including: Colour reproduction (colour range, saturation and brightness), picture sharpness (reduced image noise, improved edge reproduction), as well as providing faster processing speeds.

THE GUIDE FUNCTION
The general purpose and recommended use of the various camera modes and menu options are briefly explained directly on the LCD.This makes shooting easier and means users will rarely need to consult the manual - a real benefit for photographers on the go, as well as those looking for a short theoretical briefing without having to carry or consult guidebooks.

BRIGHT CAPTURE TECHNOLOGY
Increases light sensitivity for shooting and dramatically boosts contrasts on the HyperCrystal LCD, better photo results are achieved in low light situations.

HYPERCRYSTAL LCD
Crisp and clear sight of images on screen even under bright sunlight. Viewing images from almost any angle (angle of view up to 176°).

    Handy pocket snappy camera.3
This camera is the lightest and smallest camera I have owned so far. It has features I find very useful, for example the shoot and choose function is great for shooting action shots.
It will easily fit in a largish shirt's lapel pocket. It starts up quickly for those moments when you need a camera bit quick.
I have only given it 3 stars though because the picture quality is only average. It may be 8 megapixel but I think I was achieving better pictures with my Canon a70 3.2 megapixel camera 5 years back or more. There is considerable noise in most pictures. Colour leakage around things and lndscape pictures seem a little flat.
But if you want a well made, lightweight camera at a reasonable price you'd do well to consider this.

    Not good enough2
With a lot of compacts around for the same price, I expected a better performance from Olympus. The 5x optical zoom is great, as is the relatively big screen, and i liked the in camera panarama ability, haven't had one of those before, but it does have a minimum distance requirement so you can't go full circle round a table of friends for example, and it doesn't work very well in low light situations.
The pictures in day light are quite good, but they really suffer under low light conditions. There is noise and it doesn't handle contrast that well in situations where there is a lot of light and a lot of shadow. I'm a surveyor so i often see sites where this is the case and the autofocus either makes the area of shadow very dark or the area in the light very bright, which means when you go and touch it up on your computer you can only go so far without completely losing part of the shot.
The battery life is terrible, zooming in and out, frequently turning on and off seems to really drain it so i needed and you'd probably want two batteries if you're going to be away from the charger for longer than a day.
Also you have to take the battery out to charge - i don't see why they didn't just make it with a mini-USB socket to charge the battery and/or transfer the files.
To sum up - there are definately better camera's out there for the money that really do manage 8MP quality, and because i dropped it i get to buy a new one, and it won't be the mju840, and this camera has even turned me off from getting the mju1010.

    dissapointed3
I purchased an Olympus purely on the quality and longevity of my Olympus 35mm camera that ive had for many years and still takes amazing pictures. But as other viewers have stated the picture quality with this just is'nt that great, i seriously had better results with a finepix that i had years ago which was only 1.5 megapixels. I also dont think too much of the image stabilisers as still end up with a lot of my photos looking blurred or it could just be the picture quality in general. The camera itself looks great but that doesnt really help if the pictures dont and considering the price of this i cant see me recommending it to anyone. Ive had mine less than a year but already considering buying something else.
