Films I've seen at the cinema in 2008 (work in progress)
Walk Hard -The Dewey Cox Story [2007]Walk Hard -The Dewey Cox Story [2007]
Buy new: £6.97 / Used from: £3.14
Very silly, but none-the-less enjoyable, romp about the pitfalls of fame
St Trinian's [2007]St Trinian's [2007]
Buy new: £5.98 / Used from: £4.40
Poor and contrived entry in the naughty schoolgirl series
Cloverfield [2007]Cloverfield [2007]
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £5.75
What's that coming over the skyline? Is it a monster? Is it a monster? Breathless and gripping Digicam feast
The Bank Job [2008]The Bank Job [2008]
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £9.95
Forget Suchet looking like Ronnie Barker and enjoy this 70's nostalgia tinted crime caper. The best film of early 2008
Jumper [2008]Jumper [2008]
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £4.79
A huge disappointment. No storyline to speak of, just a series of "jumps" around the world. Shame because this had huge potential to be even half decent
Son Of Rambow [2007]Son Of Rambow [2007]
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £9.60
Ah, those sepia- tinted days of childhood. Anyone who, like me, was at secondary school in the mid-80's will relish this lovely, warm hearted film. Everyone else will enjoy it anyway.
Iron Man [2008]Iron Man [2008]
Buy new: £9.98
Super hero yarn with interesting back story and believable characters. Well worth a trip to the cinema, although just a tad too long.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2 Disc Edition) [2008]Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2 Disc Edition) [2008]
Buy new: £14.98
He's back, but is it any good? Well yes and no. Some great set pieces but it kinda feels more like National Treasure 3 than Indy 4 at times. Entertaining enough though.
The Mist [2007]The Mist [2007]
Buy new: £9.98
Stephen King's books don't always translate well to the screen, although this one does. What you get however is a tense and competent film, but with that downbeat almost depressing ending.
Wanted [2008]Wanted [2008]
Buy new: £9.98
Graphic and blood splattered, but mindless fun. There are some brilliant sequences (in the train for example) but McAvoy is an irritating leading man
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]
Buy new: £12.98
This is a much darker Narnia than the last visit. Violence aplenty, deaths galore, kids in danger et al. Not your average family movie material, but a highly entertaining, thrilling ride all the same.
WALL-E (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]WALL-E (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]
Buy new: £12.98
As expected, Pixar's eco-message movie has simply stunning animation and extraordinary attention to detail, but just not quite enough to keep anyone under 5 hooked.
The Dark Knight (2 Discs) [2008]The Dark Knight (2 Discs) [2008]
Buy new: £11.98
Brilliant and truly mind blowing film. As good as reviews would have you believe, if not better. Dark, brooding and gripping, best film of 2008 so far without doubt
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]
Buy new: £12.98
Del Toro is cinema's current wunderkind and it's easy to see why. Hellboy 2 is a great mix of action and fun and brilliant imagination.
The DuchessThe Duchess
Not my usual thing but 1) it was filmed near where I live, and 2) Keira Knightley. The film itself is not too bad either
