Manufacturer's Description
Rock music. Roll camera
iPod nano brings video to your music with the new built-in video camera. And for that extra kick: a larger screen and a polished aluminium finish in nine brilliant colours.
iPod nano now has a built-in video camera that lets you record fun as it happens. Then share it with friends on the Internet. It’s the video camera that’s small enough to take with you everywhere.
A quick scroll through the menu takes you to the video camera. Then you’re ready to record video in portrait or landscape — perfect for emailing or posting on Facebook or MobileMe. A built-in mic lets you capture audio, too. And when you play back your video on iPod nano, you’ll hear the recorded audio with it. All of which means your indispensable music player is now your indispensable video camera.
Fifteen fun video effects let you add a little Hollywood to your video. Just scroll through, choose the effect you want — such as film grain or motion blur — and start recording. When you’re done, sync iPod nano to your computer and iPhoto (or your favourite photo software) opens. Then email your mini blockbuster or post on YouTube or Facebook.
Connect iPod nano to your Mac, and iPhoto opens and syncs all the video you shot on iPod nano to your computer. It’s just as easy on a PC when you use your favourite photo software. On a Mac, you can browse and edit your videos in iPhoto, too. The video file sizes are perfect for sharing on YouTube or emailing to friends.
The world’s most popular music player now gives you even more to play with
Say you find yourself in the middle of an impromptu shopping trolley race. Or in the canteen when a colossal food fight breaks out. Now you can prove it really happened with the iPod nano video camera. Shoot high-quality video in portrait or landscape — perfect for posting on the web or emailing friends. iPod nano also includes a microphone that captures clean audio you can listen to during playback on the built-in speaker.

Design makes rock more glam
iPod nano now has a polished anodised aluminium finish in nine electrifying colours. And a larger 2.2-inch colour display for your viewing pleasure.
Genius Mixes
Now there’s another great way to get a customised set of songs on iPod nano — have Genius do all the work. Introducing Genius Mixes. All you do is sync your iPod nano to iTunes, and Genius automatically searches your library and finds songs that sound great together to create up to 12 Genius Mixes. These genre-based mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music. It’s a great way to rediscover songs you haven’t listened to for ages, and some you even forgot you had.
Genius Playlists
Say you have one song you really love and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. A few clicks on iPod nano, and Genius uses that song to find other songs in your library and makes a Genius playlist for you. You can listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh and give it another go. Count on Genius to create combinations you wouldn’t have thought of yourself.
Shake to shuffle your music
Hear songs in a totally random way. Just turn on Shake to Shuffle, then give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You never know what iPod nano will spin for you next.
FM radio + Live Pause. Return of the radio star
The new FM tuner lets you see the names of songs and artists. And the amazing new feature — Live Pause — makes listening to the radio nothing like listening to the radio. There’s always something great on the FM dial. And now the FM tuner lets you hear your favourite morning shows on your commute and discover new music while you work out. It even shows you what and who you’re listening to.
With Live Pause, you’ll never miss a beat
Say you need to take a quick break from listening to your favourite radio station. iPod nano lets you pause it with a click. Another click and you’re listening to your station again. You can even rewind as far back as 15 minutes, then fast-forward to catch up to the live broadcast.
VoiceOver. It speaks volumes
VoiceOver speaks the names of songs and artists. So you can navigate your music without looking at the screen. What if you’re listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist? Just use the Click Wheel or the controls on the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic and VoiceOver tells you the song name and who’s performing it without interrupting your music. So you’re never distracted from your ride or run by looking down at your screen.
How it works
You’ll notice how smoothly and easily VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you.
It speaks multiple languages
Your music library has songs from all over the world — a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song.
iTunes selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognises the song “Ya Viene el Sol” by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically speak that song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to hear that information spoken in another language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language for that song in iTunes.
Pedometer and Nike + iPod
The new Pedometer counts every step you take. Or you can add Nike+ shoes and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit. Which makes your iPod nano the perfect workout partner. You take your iPod nano with you everywhere. Why not use it to stay fit? iPod nano now doubles as a Pedometer. It uses the built-in accelerometer to keep track of your steps and help you meet your fitness goals. You can create a daily step goal or set it to Always On so it counts all the steps you take, all the time. Which makes iPod nano the ideal exercise partner.
Note to self: Voice Memos are here
The built-in mic lets you capture a thought, a reminder, a class lecture or any audio recording you want with Voice Memos.
iTunes. Your greatest hits
It's even easier to organise, browse, grow and share your digital music and video collection with the new iTunes. And now you can save items with a wish list and enjoy iTunes extras — bonus features on select albums and films like lyrics, photos, interviews and behind-the-scenes media.

Customer Reviews
Outstanding
I'd always avoided iPods like the proverbial plague. After hearing numerous reports of weak earphones, tinny sound and the domineering iTunes, it sounded like a world of pain to me. So, 5 years ago I bought a Creative Zen, was very happy with it and would never look at anything else. Then, a pc upgrade rendered my "old tech" Zen unusable and I had to consider a replacement. Creative's range was uninspring and I found myself looking at iPod's again.
All I can say is...wow. What a little marvel. Sound being the most important, I was blown away by how good the 5th gen nano sounds. I don't see why good sound should be sacrificed for portability and the 5th gen exceeds any expectations. On all other portable players I've bought, I've always swapped the earphones that came with it for more expensive models but the standard are so comfortable and snug. My music has never sounded so good, it is a joy to listen to on my 2 hour to and back from work. No matter what song I play, the sound is fluid, has bounce and handles bass/treble and mid ranges with ease.
The 5th gen is super slim but packs such a punch, a beautiful finish, large screen and weighs nothing. I recommend a hard case for it though, I can see it easily scratched. I have to applaud Apple's forward thinking, instead of re-releasing the nano with nothing new, the difference between the 4th & 5th gen is staggering. Radio will be a major pull for some, not for me apart from if my bus is stuck in a traffic jam, the video camera and pedometer are interesting and inspired thoughts. A stills camera I would have definitely used but it's a minor whinge over a missed oportunity.
I still don't like iTunes, it's like the tail trying to wag the dog but I acquired a book about iTunes and already have navigated some of the irritating aspects about it.
So, I'm a convert. Instead of selling out, I've been missing out. I can't recommend the new nano enough, it will be interesting to see what Apple do next.
Nano Technology
I am a silver surfer and this was my first Apple Ipod. One can only marvel at the technology built into the Ipod Nano 5th Generation. The ease of downloading music via I Tunes is remarkable but I still have to figure out how to dowload video clips! The sound reproduction and genre sorting is excellent and the video capture works well. I am a regular Amazon Customer and as usual the product was competitively priced and arrived on time. Altogether a very satisfactory experience. My only complaint is that Apple like so many other companies fail to provide a comprehensive, easily understood, product manual.
Very Good
Okay, so i thought there wasnt much more that apple could do to improve the nano; how i was wrong. The new nano has some major changes incorporated into the new model : fm transmitter, pedometer and camera as well as the voiceover technology that has recently appeared on the new shuffles.
The new incorporated camera is great for shooting video. It does so recording onto VGA and the itunes will automatically keep 200mb of space free to shoot some video. The camera is placed on the bottom left opposite side to the front of the unit, and is a smallish lens. There are also 16 modes which can be used to create some effects instead of normal old video. However, the camera will not let you take still images!
The new fm radio transmitter is great for radio on the go, and with an added feature of allowing you to pause live radio! However, this will eat into storage capacity on the ipod, which can be annoying if you have little left to spare.
The new pedometer system on the ipod works with nike+ which will help collaborate the data which can be later viewed on your pc (or mac)to monitor your exercise. It allows you to set goals to help you try and achieve them.
All the ipod nano range has received a paint job, with brighter paint being used, which makes them look a lot better than the 4th generation.
