Why? Pointless...
The amazon page needs changing to reflect the product specification on the box for a start as this is a Windows XP (Home and Professional Incl x64) ONLY!!! Not only is it limited to this but only certain Acer, ASUS, MSI and Samsung netbooks. If you need to find out which it supports the best I found was http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208280050 page... confusingly enough the manual on the stick has not one word after doing a search that states "netbook" or "netbooks" as the front of the package does - it is renamed "Ultra Portables".
I did actually think that this would be more along the lines of a tailored virus and online safety mechanism if you were out and about or on a friends PC, as it happens the stick is merely in place of a CD which installs from this and has a spare 1.8gb space to use on it for file storage.
The box seems a waste of packaging too, nothing states how big the USB stick is for your file storage (1.8gb free) and only contains a 3 page manual and a USB stick - save the trees.
In short not only does this not work on anything other than Windows XP (2 OS old!) it is also limited to a few netbooks too. This gives me concerns over future products to be released from Kaspersky and I would like to see the product specifications changed on this page to reflect what you are getting. In a nutshell I can't advise anyone to buy this, the normal Internet Security they provide is good and you would be better off checking those out. Come on Kaspersky don't release this kind of thing in the future as it is pointless.
Nothing but frustration...
This product has been one of the most annoying products I have ever had the displeasure to use. KIS for Netbooks is completely useless for anyone using Windows 7 because it is not supported, even though the Amazon product page says it is. A workaround has been mentioned by another reviewer, however I have tried to do this (installing KIS 2010) and it refused to take my product key, or 'activation code' as Kaspersky call it.
I have attempted to contact Kaspersky through their website, but I have not yet managed to find an email address to do so. Yet another annoyance.
In conclusion, this experience has convinced me never to use Kaspersky products. The support I have received from my old Internet Security provider (Bullguard) was so much better, mainly because you could actually find an email address to get help.
Does NOT work with Windows 7 but FREE upgrade to Kaspersky Internet 2010
Having read one other reviewers comments on this product I decided to re-confirm these details with Kaspersky.
They indeed confirmed that this product was NOT compatible with Windows 7 (Amazon could you update your webpage please to reflect this?) and the product is being replaced. Amazon are showing a replacement here Kaspersky Internet Security for Netbooks: 1 User, 1 Year (PC) which will be available from January 2010.
Kaspersky stated in their email response to me that although this product was not compatible with Windows 7 there was a work-around. Those who have already purchased the product may install a FREE upgrade to 2010 version using their activation code that is provided with the product.
For those who are not yet running windows 7, this product maintains Kaspersky's 'keep the system safe with minimal disruption to the user and using minimal system resources'. Ther security software takes up very little memory and is installed using the supplied USB dongle so you don't need a CD drive to install as most netbooks don't have them.
