Synopsis
Paul Hogan stars as criminal Terry Dean, who's hit by a car whilst trying to save a little girl. On regaining conciousness in a heaven-like place he sets out believing himself to be an angel.

Funny, uplifting, heartwarming
Terry Dean (Hogan) is a crook. A crook with a penchant for hold-ups and a genius for electronics. Prison is simply where he spends time in between heists. And parole is time for the next job.
But this time things don't quite go as planned.
Uncharacteristically saving a man from being run over, he himself is hit by the car.
Planning a bank robbery, a gang beats him to it: and he gets shot.
And that's just the start. For Dean becomes convinced that he's dead: that he's a probationary angel, put back on earth to earn his wings. (Watch out for Charlton Heston as St.Peter)
And so begins the attempt to discover what The Boss has in mind for him...
Turning over a new leaf brings unexpected friendships and emotional healing (Elias Koteas is excellent as the paraplegic Steve Garner), and unorthodox methods succeed as Dean does his bit in "doing God's work". (Pity the poor priest who is called upon to explain to Dean how one hears God's voice...) It is a story of friendship, and also a story of facing, and meeting, death. And yes, there's a twist in the tail of the tale!
At times funny, at times moving, this tale of redemption is vastly underrated. It is one of my all-time favourite movies: but there seems to be no move to bring it out on DVD.
Almost An Angel
A witty, funny and heartwarming film. One of my all-time favourites that deserves to be released on DVD.
Elias Koteas deserved an Oscar for his performance.
Moving and highly entertaining..and great humour!
Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski who starred in the 'Crocodile Dundee' films appear in this story that is moving and very humourous, that has a twist at the end.
By no means a Christian Faith film, but has some neat Biblical sub-plots.
I remember I saw this film on the cable channel in the early 1990s, a few years after it was made. Still great viewing, as it was back then.
It has finally come out on DVD by paramount pictures and it is in 16.9 widescreen suitable for widescreen TVs. There are no extras on it. But for the low price I paid for this DVD overseas here at amazon.co.uk, it was worth it.
If you like the 'Crocodile Dundee' films you will like this one.
