The Robbie Williams Show is the first of many products which EMI hope will recompense them for their huge investment in Robbie. Stylised as a kitschy 1960s light entertainment special, and recorded on one of the James Bond stages at Pinewood Studios, the show opens in a spectacular manner with 80 dancers perched behind the star on a 60 ft scaffolding set. Produced as a "live" and intimate TV special to promote the album Escapology, the show also provides further evidence of the star's quest to become an all-round entertainer.

Between the songs, Williams teases and cajoles the audience with his usual patter of innuendo and self-parody. He also candidly discusses the multi-million pound record deal, his separation from long-time songwriting collaborator Guy Chambers, and his 12-month break from performing live. The show is faultless, and achieves its primary objective of showcasing the new album through a sensible mix of familiar favourites and fresh material. The dancers, musicians and stage set are also excellent, and provide further evidence of how Robbie Williams Inc. has become a mammoth enterprise with the fortunes of many riding on his success. However, his continued on and off-stage lampooning of his fame and fortune becomes immensely irritating after a while: change this record Robbie, before it wears you and your fans out.

On the DVD: The Robbie Williams Show DVD reproduces the garish colours of the stage set and lighting, and the soundtrack (available in ordinary stereo, and 5.1 Surround) provides added panache to this light-entertainment spectacular. As well as the 23-minute backstage footage, comprising the standard Robbie-walking-around-with-no-shirt-on material, other extras include Hamish Brown's photos of the show, alternative versions of three of the songs, and footage rescued from the cutting-room floor of Robbie performing "Revolution". Synopsis
Described by some as his equivalent to Elvis's comeback special, this performance granted 450 devoted fans an intimate audience with Robbie Williams at Pinewood television studio. Determined to impress, Robbie arms himself with elaborate sets, 80 dancers and a specially designed lighting set. One for the ages
This was actually my first Robbie DVD I got (Christmas 2003 gift) and quite frankly, I am surprised it still works because I have played it so many times since then. Though the studio seems small compared to most others, Robbie uses the space well and brings out a performance like no other. Basically this is a promotion for his new recent albumn at the time Escapology, but he brings his earlier work out with the style that is Robbie Williams. Songs like Rock DJ and Angels which we all love stand out, as well as some of the Swing songs like Bojangles, Ain't That a Kick in the Head, Have you Met Miss Jones and One For My Baby are presented in the style that only he can deliver. Plus all his songs off of Escapology, with How Peculiar and Revolution added as extras. In the same section as those two, Nan's Song and Feel can be found, and these are seen in front of the audience. (Even after he tells them to clap in time, they are still out. Anyone else notice that?) There was one addition that wasn't/isn't on any of his CD's, called One Fine Day. Great song, and I hope one day he adds it to a CD. Extra footage can be seen by winning the Lights game three times (and it ain't easy), and so far I have seen three different bits of footage: Where he talks about the tour, where he plays along with the band the song Sweet Home Alabama, and when he introduces us to Nan's Song. With only a few ommissions, noticably Let me Entertain You, Millennium and Love Supreme, with the opening Rock DJ, and the closing Angels, this is one DVD to buy, remember, watch and cherish over and over again. Even after all this time, I am captivated by his performance, and the doco What a Performance is a great viewing of the behind the scenes making of the performance. Watch and be proud that once again he has delivered to us a stunning concert. Oh, and watch carefully because you might miss this: Robbie's reaction when he realises he mixed up the words in Ain't that a Kick, and during the same song, trips over the microphone stand. Not so much as funny as a quirky moment that might be missed if not viewed closely. All in all, another 10/10 performance by the man himself, Mr. Robbie Williams.

What a Show!!!
Robbie is back from his holiday in America and is bigger and better than he has ever been before. He sings some of his new songs off his number one album, Escapology and also swings a little bit too. The concert shows Robbie performing on a wee circle platform surrounded by die-hard fans and also shows him performing with no audience at all. Even though Robbie has been away for a while, he still knows how to make the crowd roar with his usual dancing and jokes. Not only do you get to enjoy one of the best concerts ever, you get lot's of other backstage photos, a game and footage of robbie behind the scenes, where he tells us he is now on a diet beacause of a film!!!

Robbie Just keeps Growing
From start to finish this performance by Robbie bursts with the confidence of a pure megastar. It’s a perfect performance. Robbie’s voice seems to expand the more he pushes it, he rattles through old material with respect and again swings in top class form. His material from Escapology shows a maturity that with luck will continue in forthcoming material. The audience reaction reflects the fact that they are held in Robbie hand for 90 mins the captivation that this truly great performer holds over people is obvious from the faces in the small crowd assembled at Pinewood to witness this recording. This DVD is one of the finest examples of value for money I have ever seen packed with extras and a superb 5:1 soundtrack, DTS would have topped it off but I am not moaning. It’s the DVD that Robbie fans have deserved for years. It delivers BIG TIME
