![]() | Queen by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £4.29 One thing Queen were not was an instant hit: this solid debut effort from 1973 can seem average in context. Remarkably, this is the only Queen studio album that doesn't contain a hit single.
![]() | Queen II by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £7.50 This was the record that confirmed Queen were a class apart from most of their peers. The multi-layered vocal and guitar arrangements are stunning in places. Other albums are more accessible though.
![]() | Sheer Heart Attack by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £3.00 Generally regarded as the breakthrough album, and contains their first big hit in "Killer Queen". Would have been a classic but for the weak tracks "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" and "Misfire".
![]() | A Night at the Opera by Queen
Buy used from: £5.98 Each legendary band has a classic album and this is Queen's. Even without the ubiquitous Bohemian Rhapsody this would have been outstanding. Easily among the best studio records of all time.
![]() | A Day at the Races by Queen
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £4.29 Somewhat in the shadow of its predecessor but a strong album nonetheless. Contains the brilliant "Somebody To Love" and a generally softer sound throughout. "You Take My Breath Away" is outstanding.
![]() | News of the World by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £4.99 Can sound transitional and disjointed in parts but has several standout tracks. "It's Late" and "My Melancholy Blues" are probably two of Queen's better songs that weren't released as singles.
![]() | Jazz by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £5.38 More of the same from this 1978 offering: a sprawling collection of songs rather than a consistent album; however, the fantastic "Don't Stop Me Now" and beautiful "Jealousy" are among Queen's best.
![]() | Live Killers by Queen
Buy new: £12.98 / Used from: £4.99 Disordered at times and poorly produced, the later live albums are much better in my opinion. Popular among fans though as it's the only official live material from the seventies.
![]() | The Game by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £3.79 Queen's "back to basics" album, with a stripped-down, funkier sound, and simpler arrangements. A few album tracks are weak but with 4 hit singles plus the excellent "Dragon Attack" it's a classic.
![]() | Greatest Hits by Queen
Buy used from: £10.41 Every Queen album from 1974 to 1980 contained at least 1 hit single, most had 2 or 3. When they were all put together in 1981 the result was incredible. This deserves a place in any record collection.
![]() | Hot Space by Queen
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £5.99 Often pilloried as Queen's moment of madness but better than many will have you think. A handful of "disco rock" tracks are forgettable, but "Las Palabras de Amor" and "Under Pressure" are excellent.
![]() | The Works by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £4.78 Though Queen's mid-eighties tours scaled new heights, their studio albums didn't. Fortunately hit singles such as "Radio Ga Ga", "Hammer To Fall" and "It's A Hard Life" save this brief 9 track affair.
![]() | A Kind of Magic by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £2.67 Probably more famous for the accompanying tour as, if you look past the handful of strong singles, this is a fairly lightweight offering by Queen standards. "Who Wants To Live Forever" stands out.
![]() | Live Magic by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £0.99 A "souvenir" live album with a modest collection of heavily edited tracks. "Live At Wembley Stadium" is a full show from the same tour and infinitely superior.
![]() | The Miracle by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £2.95 After a 3 year hiatus Queen returned with a rather commercial but solid album. A little more pop than usual but "Was It All Worth It" and "I Want It All" feature Queen at their rocking best.
![]() | Innuendo by Queen
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £3.96 The opulent rock returns for this final studio album. Innuendo boasts some powerful and haunting tracks, and features a stunning vocal performance from Freddie Mercury. It's my personal favourite.
![]() | Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 by Queen
Buy used from: £1.45 Though their albums weren't quite as strong throughout the eighties, the hits just kept coming. Not quite as grand as Greatest Hits 1 but a dazzling array of singles nonetheless.
![]() | Live at Wembley Stadium by Queen
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £3.00 The second of Queen's two legendary performances at Wembley Stadium on their final tour in 1986. Not as energetic as their earlier tours but it's a great show. Brian May is in fine form on the guitar.
![]() | Made In Heaven by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £0.73 Pieced together from tracks left over after the premature death of their frontman. I find this 1995 offering contrived and over-produced in parts. "You Don't Fool Me" is probably the standout track.
![]() | Greatest Hits, Vol. 3 by Queen
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £1.40 I never really understood this one; Queen didn't have enough tracks for a third Greatest Hits album, so added an assortment of re-mixes, live numbers and solo material. Not essential in my opinion.
![]() | Queen On Fire - Live At The Bowl by Queen
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £2.84 From their huge 1982 tour; Queen really are on fire here, Mercury in particular displays an incredible energy and sings better live than most vocalists manage in a studio. It's the best live album.
![]() | Queen Rock Montreal (2CD) by Queen
Buy new: £9.78 / Used from: £3.49 A fair 1981 concert, and their final show with no backing keyboards. The performance only pre-dates that featured on the previous live album by 6 months though, so the sound and set list are similar.
![]() | The Cosmos Rocks by Queen & Paul Rodgers
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £1.82 Is it Queen? Not as I know it, but Brian May and Roger Taylor do collaborate well with Paul Rodgers to craft a fairly solid blues-rock album. "We Believe" and "Say It's Not True" stand out.
![]() | Absolute Greatest by Queen
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £6.00 I won't be buying this as I have every song at least twice over. This is Queen reaching out to new audiences and why not? The music is impeccable but long-standing fans will find nothing new here.
