Gadget-tastic, but for light use only2
The brand name of "Fulton" with its "by royal appointment" status made me think that this would have been a quality bit of kit and perhaps better engineered.

It is certainly a good size for two, and impressive unfolding action from a very small fold size. (Definite gadget appeal!)

Less impressive is the attempt to fold it back up. There seems to be a bit of a technique required.

First off, when you push the button to collapse the canopy, even the slightest wind pressure under the canopy will stop it from folding down. The mechanism works fine in that it unlocks all the parts and gets everything ready to collapse, but it's like the wind pressure is just enough to overpower the spring, and can give the impression that nothing has happened after the loud click.

That's not really a problem, but something to be aware of when you are about to jump onto a bus! (Just pull the runner down the tube to bring it down.)

After you've collapsed the telescopic tube and clicked it into place, you then need to get the ribs and stretchers neatly folded against the tube, and start wrapping the canopy into a tight package that will fit into the supplied cover.

That leads to the second problem, which is again not a deal breaker, but it certainly isn't trouble free.... The ribs seem to fold just so far before they don't want to go any further!!

You have to apply a little 'sideways pressure' to each rib to get it to fold all the way in. The rib sections appear to be pressed sheet metal, and it's the rough construction that seems to stop them folding back down smoothly.

I've only had mine on two outings so far, and it seems OK, but after reading the other reviewer, I wonder how long it will last in a good wind. Even though the claim is that it is designed to take being blown inside out, I feel that the size will catch a lot of wind, and the flimsy construction will work against it.

I'd be interested in trying to find anyones opinion on Bigtop Automatic Open/Close Double canopy folding umbrella BLACK which folds smaller, opens bigger, has a double canopy, and should therefore be a little more wind resistant.

As it is, I think that it'll be fine for sitting in the car and covering the distance across the car park. I'd still like something a little more solid for carrying to work.

big span and works a treat4
It's been great for the 2 years I've had it. Very strong and opens and shuts easily for me.
Just wished I'd looked after it more as I'm always throwing it on the floor which has taken it's toll on some of the joints and made holes in the top but that's only through 2 years of missuse in a very wet and windy UK. Apart from that it's still going strong and I can't recommend it enough. When this one dies I'll be buying another!
