Brilliant - British Wildlife At Its Best
This is a great film that sees Gordon Buchanan exploring the island where he grew up. Gordon spent many years filming in the Amazon basin with the late Nick Gordon who together brought incredible moving pictures to our TV screens in the form of 'Survival'.
Gordon returns to Mull and spends a year filming a diverse range of wildlife on the island. The photography is fantastic, particularly the time lapse sequences. The music score is equally as good and really adds to the texture and style of the whole film.
Gordon's unobtrusive presenting style is refreshing and honest. You won't find any cheap celebrity gimmicks or dodgy jokes here.
This is good, honest wildlife programming at its best. We need more films like this on our TV screens. If your into British wildlife programmes, you will watch this again and again.
My only complaint would be that, at the time of writing it is listed at £14.99, which in my eyes is a little steep.
Eagle Island DVD
Some wonderful footage of sea eagles and of the Isle of Mull but for me the DVD is spoilt by the appearance of Gordon Buchanan in every location.
Buchanan Island would be a more apt title.
Eagle Island
This DVD documents the return of the film maker to his homeland of Mull, where he spends a year primarily in search of Sea Eagles, Otters and Minke Whales. The documentary captures not only the seasonal changes and infamous Scottish weather, but brings to life both the breathtaking scenery on Mull, as well as the abundance of wildlife. The film makers' passion and love for both Mull and it's wild life is plain to see, but is not overwhelming or sentimentalist, instead it allows the viewer to visually develop the same love of Mull as the film maker himself. There are some simply remarkable images of Sea Eagles,Golden Eagles, Otters, Seals, Whales and Basking Sharks amongst others, all set against the stunning back drop of Mull itself. This is a delight for anyone interested in Wildlife and/or the west of Scotland.
