Not an Essential Maria Callas purchase

There are plenty of Maria Callas tribute CD collections available to choose from, but this 3 disc set should be near the bottom of the list.

The recordings, some studio some live, are of variable quality and undisclosed dates - there are no sleeve notes whatsoever except the opera from which the piece was taken.

What at first glance would appear a good budget priced collection of Maria Callas performances rapidly turns in to a forgetable collection of poor recordings thrown together in a cheaply presented set.

Maria Callas deserves a better tribute than this.

There are 3 CDs here - one is good, the other two are pathetic.
The Puccini CD is fine - no complaints there.
The other two, Heroines and Immortal Diva are very poor recordings with lots of background noises, including people talking over the music.They sound as if they have been recorded from the back of the stalls on an old tape recorder.
This is cheap and does have a good range of tracks but really only one in three of the disks is worth listening to and we are throwing the others away.
