Editorial Reviews

CD Description
For the first time ever, The New Seekers pack all their greatest hits on one fifteen track album. The band ruled the charts in the early '70's with classics like "Beg Steal or Borrow", "Circles", "Never Ending Song of Love" and their biggest selling single (with a million copies) "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing". It's Been Too Long ..The Greatest Hits And More contains also contains new tracks, along with two medleys ("Blackberry Way Medley" and Hallelujah Medley") which the band have been performing live for the last 15 years--this is the first time they're available on record.

Original & New Recordings On One CD4
There are a number of greatest hits compilations available from this talented harmony group. However, this one is different because it includes original recordings from their heyday when they were signed to Polydor and CBS records, as well as some new tracks by the current NS line up which includes the only original member Paul Layton plus Donna Jones and Mick Flinn, formerly of Springfield Revival.

All the hits are here and highlights include covers of Harry Chapin's `Circles', The Who's 'Pinball Wizard' and Melanie's `Nickel Song'.

Of the new songs : Although a reworking of their `Hallelujah Medley' from 1974 fails to capture the magic of the original, the current line up does shine on 'I Can't Breathe' and 'Just Another Lesson' is a real gem from the early '80s written and performed by original NS Marty Kristian.

If you want to hear more than just the hits then check out their 2 on 1 cds ( 'Together Again / Anthem' & 'Beautiful People/ Circles ' ) along with the comprehensive `Songbook' which includes over 50 songs lifted from the group's seven or so albums from the early `70s.

And if you ever wondered what happened to original members, blonde LYN PAUL and brunette EVE GRAHAM, then you will be pleased to know that they too are still recording and performing today. Again, check out their excellent solo albums on Amazon.

For long time Lyn fans, you may also want to grab yourself a copy of the soundtrack from the film `The Dove' which is now finally available on cd. This includes 2 versions of `Sail The Summer Winds', Lyn's first solo single following her split from the New Seekers written by John Barry. The only crime is that this wasn't a big, big hit when it was first released some 35 years ago.

1970 to 73 - The Best of British Pop3
Much criticism has been levelled at the current group but in truth after 1974, none of the line-ups from the reform in 76 onwards is fit to compare with the heyday of 70 to 73 - the original 1969 line up wasn't great either and represents a vastly different sound to the heights of the Peter, Lyn and Eve (plus Marty and Paul) years. Peter leaving in 73 had a far greater impact on the group than is often recognised both from songwriting and vocal strength and stylistic viewpoints - Peter Oliver was unable to fill the vastly more talented Peter Doyle's shoes and even though the hits such as "..Another Fool Like Me" and "I Get a Little Sentimental Over You", kept on coming the trademark sublime harmonies were history, albeit those recordings were signifcantly better than anything post 76 or pre July 70.

Mixing the glory years with the later sub-par recordings borders on the criminal - far better to have included album tracks or 'B' sides from 1970-73/4. An album of such material would unquestionably be 5 stars but this album only gets three, so bad is the later/recent stuff - sadly, other than the name of the group, 1976+ offers absolutely nothing in common with the years when The New Seekers were simply the best British (well with two Aussies, British based!) pop had to offer.

Happy Memories Old & New5
I do get fed up with the criticism of the current line-up, most of which have been part of the setup longer than the original line-up.

This CD just proves what a talented group they were and still are.

OK the current line-up with the exception of Paul never performed the hits or had success with them in the 70's but to me they are THE NEW SEEKERS.

This CD is a welcome addition to any collection and brings back many happy memories of the 70's.

The new material is lovely to see, and lets hope that with the help of Universal Records we see some more new releases from these talented musicians and singers.

If you see that the Group are performing in your area then please do book tickets, you will not be disappointed and you'll have a really fun evening.
