'Bella?' Edward's soft voice came from behind me. I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, and kissed me again. His kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine - like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which? Following the international bestsellers Twilight and New Moon, Eclipse is the much-anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's captivating saga of vampire romance.

Editorial Reviews
Review
'The sexiest vampire tale for years arrived in Stephenie Meyer's TWILIGHT, about teenage Bella's chaste romance with a beautiful vampire boy. Their intensely erotic feelings are endangered by more predatory types. Guaranteed to suck in sulky 13+ girls for hours.' The Times 'Will keep readers madly flipping the pages of Meyer's tantalizing debut.' Publishers Weekly

Too involved to be objective?
I have kept up with these characters, Bella, Edward & Jacob, for three books now and I am finding it hard to find my objectivity these days. Was this book good? Yes, they all are. Could I put `ECLIPSE' down once I picked it up? Absolutely not! But this was not my favorite book in the series.
Now before you all start throwing tomatoes (because I know many people think it is the best thus far), this goes back to my objectivity being compromised. There were so many great aspects of this book, for example, the flash backs as to how the rest of the Cullen's became vampires (loved that!), the history of the Quileute tribe and the story line about the newborns (which, in truth, I had higher hopes for but I liked it overall). But in my head there is a certain outcome that I would prefer for Bella, but by the end of `ECLIPSE' it became pretty clear that what I want and what is actually going to happen are two very different things. It is like watching a good friend make a lot of decisions that you know are really bad. It is frustrating.
Also, Bella was a little hard to deal with in this third book. She was whiney and selfish , in my opinion, quite often I wanted to slap her (smile)! I found her treatment of everyone from Edward to Jacob to Charlie off-putting and I often found myself screaming at the book for Bella to "stop being so selfish!!" Nonetheless, this book is just as engrossing as the rest, that point I cannot deny. I found myself reading 'ECLIPSE' faster than I have ever ready any other 600+ page book before. And I am waiting not-so-patiently on the edge of my seat for the fourth and final book in the Twilight saga `BREAKING DAWN'!
The soap opera continues....
Hmm what's wrong with this book........
Hmm maybe its the 300 pages devoted to Bellas whining
Maybe it Edwards- he's a bore- devoid of all personality. Their relationship is just way too intense. They so need to rent a comedy and just have a laff! Imagine if they got drunk together ` no I love you more, no I love u way more'!!
Perhaps its Bella- Now im a fan of a flawed heroine ie lizzie Bennett but god Bella takes the biscuit! She is possibly the most wallowing, pathetic, indecisive, selfish, useless person I ever read about. She has no interests (apart from Edward obviously) and no dreams for the future (apart from being a dead chick with a handsome boyf for all eternity). If you were about to become an immortal vampire what would be on your mind. I for one would be thinking hmmm I will never taste a hamburger ever again, or go shopping with friends, or have babies, or spend any time with my real family and id certainly be thinking about the fact that I was gonna outlive my parents by yonks and how sad that would be! She just becomes really unreal and shallow in this book which is a shame cos I liked her in twilight.
Maybe it's the lack of action- the blurb makes the book sound action packed but the threat from Victoria never really materialises and the battle is all off scene.
Saying all that I did enjoy the back stories of the vampires and werewolves-it would have been ace if she had really fleshed these out for us and I liked the conversations Jacob and Edward have at the end of the book.
For me this book was just too much of the same that we had to endure in New moon...will still read breaking dawn tho-if I can pick it up-must weigh a stone!
wow!
wow.
twilight, new moon and eclipse have to be some of the best books I have ever read.
I love the fact that they are not just love stories but they have that element of the unknown in them (eg werewolves and vampires) they really draw you in and once you start reading i found I couldnt stop. To anyone who hasnt read it I would recommendit 100 times over.
Yes, I agree there are some points which I dont like about all three of the books- like edward leaving bella in new moon and the love triangle in eclipse. Although I think the reason for not liking this was because of the deep connection you get with bella and edward and you just want them to be together. You feel through bella, what she wants and needs and even if you dont want to you can see the reasons behind most of her actions.
however when reading a book there is always going to be things you dont like about it, and it makes it more interesting, keeps you gripped hoping that things will turn out differently.
I just have one more thing to say, for those who have read new moon once, read it again. By doing this you will apprieciate what Jacob and Bella have got because, if you are like myself, you will be so attatched to Edward, you will practically skip through the pages to try and find him in the story again!!!! and by reading this middle section properly it gives you more understanding into what they have.
but so yes. An amazing triolgy so far- I cant wait until the next is out!!
