A Very Welcome Addiction.....
Here it is in all its stunning glory, the long awaited third album from Chris Corner's IAMX project.
All too rarely something comes along that is so special, that it literally jumps out and simply demands that you listen. And for the first time in a very long time, it happens right here, this is an absolute gem.
A stunningly dark and beautiful album, which is just a pleasure to listen to. It sends shivers down my spine and will do the same to anyone who has blood running through their veins. I cannot remember the last time that I felt so attached to a piece of work like this before. Chris Corner (aka IAMX) has bared his soul here, and it appears that he has left nothing behind in the studio. `Kingdom Of Welcome Addiction' comes across as a very personal album for him. Corner puts all of his cards on the table; he goes through a whole range of emotions. Although he appears to be mainly angry (`An I For An I', `The Stupid The Proud', `Tear Garden', `Think Of England'). He is also, optimistic (`You Can Be Happy'), fragile (`The Great Shipwreck Of Life'), insecure (`I Am Terrified') and at times, lonely (`Running').
Although still as melodic as ever, this album does see something of a shift in direction from the nightclub dance floor vibe of the last album (`The Alternative'), to a far more eminently satisfying, thought provoking and melancholic feel, without ever wallowing in self pity. Every single song feels like it has been hand crafted with extreme TLC. Each track is intense in its own way, and just craves your attention; there is absolutely nothing to skip on this album. It is quite simply a wondrous joy, a journey into the unknown, an exhilarating experience that just pulls you in and once there, you can never escape its clutches, as the title suggests, this is an album that is very much a welcome addiction.
Despite the undoubted quality of the first two IAMX albums, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this third IAMX album sees Chris Corner step up to the next level and beyond. I also believe that Chris Corner cannot make a better album than this; its sheer poetic brilliance touches perfection. It has a classic and timeless feel, and for those who hear it, they will melt under its mesmerising spell. Utterly glorious.
Good but not his best
This a good offering from IAMX with emotional vocals and lyrics but overall a bit of a disappointment for me. Sadly, none of the tracks made me think "wow!", unlike Kiss and Swallow where 90% of it did. A couple of them could've been lifted straight from The Alternative (which isn't exactly a bad thing) but the rest of the album sees too much of a Nine Inch Nails sound going on and is a bit too samey. This a good album but out of the three it's my least favorite. Check out Kiss and Swallow for a sheer brilliant album!
Awesome
Kingdom of Welcome Addiction
This is yet another sexy dark glorious album from IAMX. The duet with Imogen Heap 'My Secret Friend' is especially beautiful.
BUY THIS ALBUM and listen to it loads.
