Listmania!
Books I would seriously recomend to any who would read them.
Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth)Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth) by Terry Goodkind
Buy used from: £17.67
A good book, although a little too similar to the 'Wheel Of Time' series. I would also recomend the next 3 in the series but not beyond that (it gets repetitious).
The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time)The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: £6.99 / Used from: £1.45
This book (and series) should possibly be mentioned before the above one, however, as I said, this list is in no particular order. A very good read.
A Shadow on the Glass (View from the Mirror)A Shadow on the Glass (View from the Mirror) by Ian Irvine
Buy new: £6.90 / Used from: £0.01
Possibly the best book I have ever read (if you can get through the first few chapters). Definitely one to read, however, I would avoid all other books by Irvine (including others in this series!)
Song in the Silence (Tor fantasy)Song in the Silence (Tor fantasy) by Elizabeth Kerner
Buy new: £4.49 / Used from: £0.01
A great fun book and an interesting look at dragons, even if the ending is rather trite. Good, clean fun.
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1)A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1) by George R.R. Martin
Buy new: £5.29 / Used from: £1.99
The one criticism I would make of this book is that rather a lot of Martin's characters came down with incipient mortality and, inevitably, these were mainly the characters I liked *sigh*.
Ravenheart: A Novel of the RiganteRavenheart: A Novel of the Rigante by David Gemmell
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £1.38
Easily the best Gemmell book out there, although I would also definitely recommend 'Legend' as well.
The Ring of Five Dragons (Pearl Saga)The Ring of Five Dragons (Pearl Saga) by Eric Lustbader
Buy new: £6.29 / Used from: £0.01
Strange, since I seem to be in the minority in liking this book, however, enjoy it I did and I would recommend it to most.
Daggerspell (Deverry)Daggerspell (Deverry) by Katharine Kerr
Buy used from: £3.19
Great book, the 'present day' section tells a really gripping story, though the 'past' sections let you down a little. Again, I would recommend reading this book and the next, but then stopping.
Talon of the Silver Hawk (Conclave of Shadows)Talon of the Silver Hawk (Conclave of Shadows) by Raymond E. Feist
Buy new: £5.96 / Used from: £0.01
A really interesting book this one, I enjoyed the way Feist created a hero who was a bit of a 'yes' man but who still was able to think for himself.
The White DragonThe White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey
Buy new: £6.39 / Used from: £0.01
Having read the vast majority of the McCaffery books, I must admit that the only one to measure up to this one is her first book, 'Dragonflight'.
The High Lord: The Black Magician Trilogy Book ThreeThe High Lord: The Black Magician Trilogy Book Three by Trudi Canavan
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £1.87
Another brilliant book, unfortunately you must read the previous two in the series to appreciate this book fully, however it is well worth the effort.
A Cavern of Black Ice (Sword of Shadows)A Cavern of Black Ice (Sword of Shadows) by J.V. Jones
Buy new: £6.96 / Used from: £0.01
Again, a very good book. J V Jones is a compulsive writer and I am looking forward to the release of the third in the series.
Lord of Snow and Shadows (The Tears of Artamon)Lord of Snow and Shadows (The Tears of Artamon) by Sarah Ash
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01
Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, only two of this series are currently published, but I would recommend them both in the strongest possible terms.
WolfskinWolfskin by Juliet Marillier
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01
This book had an almost historical fiction esque feel to it. Personnally I liked it far more than her earlier 'Sevenwaters Trilogy' and would recommend it to anyone.
Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy - Book 1)Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy - Book 1) by Robin Hobb
Buy new: £6.46 / Used from: £0.99
I must admit to not being a great fan of Robin Hobb. I greatly enjoyed this book and, on the strength of that, was prompted to read the others in the series, however, I was greatly dissappointed.
The Belgariad (Vol 1): Volume One: Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magician's GambitThe Belgariad (Vol 1): Volume One: Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magician's Gambit by David Eddings
Buy used from: £8.61
This was the series that first introduced me to fantasy and I still find it good fun, though it is a bit of a cliche and rather simplistically written.
The Thief's Gamble (A tale of Einarinn)The Thief's Gamble (A tale of Einarinn) by Juliet E. McKenna
Buy new: £6.99 / Used from: £0.01
This is the first book from a prolific author, and is good fun, though I have yet to read the others in the series as yet.
The Ill-Made Mute (The Bitterbynde Trilogy)The Ill-Made Mute (The Bitterbynde Trilogy) by Cecilia Dart-Thornton
Buy new: £5.49 / Used from: £0.01
If you can soldier past the first two chapters (and my God, are these chapters long!) then this book really picks up and is well worth the read.
The Lord of the Rings: Two TowersThe Lord of the Rings: Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
Buy used from: £0.01
Yes, it had to be there somewhere, didn't it? Ah well, LOTR is a good series, if you can get out of the Shire, but "The Two Towers" is my favourite of the three.
The Last DragonlordThe Last Dragonlord by Joanne Bertin
Buy used from: £1.00
I am a bit loath to put this book in as its writing style is less than outstanding, however, it seemed a shame to end a list on book 19 and Joanne Bertin tells a good story.
