Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Millions of consumers have become trapped in a spiral of debt, but there is hope. If you want to free yourself from the shackles of debt, this book is for you--it can help you "get out of debt, stay out of debt and live prosperously". Jerrold Mundis writes in a friendly, engaging style, urging readers to stop the cycle of spending. Mundis knows what he's talking about--he, too, was once thousands of (US) dollars in debt and didn't know where to turn. Anecdotes from Debtors Anonymous folks, plus multiple examples from the writer's own life and ledgers, make How to Get Out of Debt an encouraging read, not a condescending one. Once you start your program, you may want to periodically reread some chapters for inspiration or fun. --Jake Bond

An Oxfordshire reader who was £30,000 in debt writes .......5
This book was recommended to me 12 years ago when I was £30,000 in debt with no assets whatsoever and on the point of bankruptcy. It turned my life around completely (if the author is reading this, I would like to say a long overdue thank you).

My first reaction on reading the book was one of total relief. Whilst newspapers and magazines occasionally address the subject of a little light overspending at Christmas, I had never come across anything that dealt with large-scale debt. The book begins with a number of examples of others who had large debts and worked their way out of it. No miracles, no bankruptcies, just a lot of honesty with oneself and determination to take responsibility. The book is written by an American. Don't let that worry you. The principles are the same whichever side of the Atlantic you're on.

The author goes on to explain the psychology of debting. Looking back I realise I overspent for psychological reasons. Trying to keep up with others, compensate for perceived deprivations etc. Realising this helped me get a hold of my finances.

The rest of the book provides practical step-by-step help with dealing with creditors, managing your money (no matter how little you think you have - I was earning £14K p.a. at the time) so as to be able to repay your debts without feeling massive deprivation.

It truly put me back on to a path that allowed me to take control of my finances, repay all my debts, recover my dignity and have a decent life. Twelve years on I have no debts and have a lovely home.

If you are in debt and wondering whether to buy this book, I urge you to buy it, read it, re-read it and put the principles into practice. I promise it really can be done.

Enlightening and Empowering!4
Ok so you may have some debt, but this book will change your attitude to money for the better, allowing you to escape the debt trap and still live! All you have to do is be serious about achieving the end goal and actually follow the advice offered. There are tasks that will help you view money and life in a different light. It shows you how to analyse your spending and turn the results in to a proper budget tailored made for you, using a very simple system. That, along with making a commitment not to debt on a daily basis can only help anyone get back on a serious sound financial footing, without feeling deprived.

I think this could be a good book for people with serious debt problems, as it gives very good information on drawing up a debt repayment plan based on YOUR budget, and invaluable advice on dealing with creditors, allowing you to take control again.

It is also useful for people that want to take more control of their finances, like I did and pay off that niggly credit card! There is a lot of advice and examples and whilst the whole book may not apply to your every situation, and I certainly found the parts I used very enlightening and empowering.

You have nothing to lose ,except your Debt!

Why didn't I read this 10 years ago !!5
This really is a simple but very inspiring book. The 'lessons' in it should be taught to all people as they take on their first job. It will be the best money you have ever invested. I am on the road to no debt, my friend has also read the book and is doing well too. Both of us spent too long in the past looking at ways to earn more money (which isn't a problem) - but first learn to manage what you have got, this book will show you how without a doubt. If you can't afford it get a copy from the library. Good luck and God bless you.
