Best Ever Item i bought off Amazon ever !!
This dock is fantastic, although i had a very long wait over 4 weeks for it to arrive, im sure it was in stock when i placed my order, but any way it was a lot cheaper when i bought it, also it does not show it on here but there is 4 port usb on front what more do you want ,it also came with a esata cable!!!. it's a must buy for transfering files from usb or sata hard drives, be it 2.5" or 3.5" just slot it in no fiddly screws any more !!. Im very happy i bought it from Amazon, and trust me they where the cheapest at the time for this product !!
Possible problems
It doesn't come with a usb hub, but I've got enough USB ports :) What I bought it for is the eSATA interface which can be used instead of USB (which is also has) to give you a really fast transfer speed to the PC you attach it to... plus they put an eSATA cable in the box which would normally cost you a few quid extra.
Admittedly it would have been nice to have a USB hub, and a card reader, but looking at the specs for the one Mr. B. Hannah links to, I'm not certain whether that product has the eSATA connection + cable in the box.
UPDATE: I've found I've got problems mounting & formatting & reliably using a 1.5Tb Seagate drive.. I returned the Seagate drive thinking that was at fault, but it's replacement has the same issue. I'm wondering whether it's the low-level eSATA drivers, or whether it's the power supplied to the drive by the docking station that's at fault. Anyone experienced similar issues?
Convenient
I received my eSata Docking Station yesterday, and I am not dissapointed. Unlike other reviews here, mine came with four USB ports on the front to use as a hub, but what appeals to me is that I no longer have to have multiple USB drives plugged in to my PC, instead just plonk in my sata HDDs to the docking station as and when I need the disk.
The USB connection allows the disks to be Plug'n'Play, without rebooting the PC, using eSATA allows substantially faster throughput but without the ability to Plug'n'Play (I found I needed to reboot).
Good for HDDs you use for backups or confidential information, and very flexible. It holds the disks securely, and a nice eject button at the front to remove them. The best investment of £20 I have spent in a while.
