Manufacturer's Description
Premium Sound Quality through advanced technology and design
Through using the best technologies, best design and all our huge know-how, Panasonic Home Cinema Systems adapt and respond to the various acoustic needs of your home. Whether you want to play powerful music with as much life and bass as if it were live, or watch a film on ‘gone to bed’ low volume, you can expect your Panasonic system to deliver the highest quality of sound at both ends of the scale.

The centre and front speakers are made of bamboo, which has received high acclaim not just because it is environmentally friendly, but because it offers a more extensive sound range. They are aligned in a vertical symmetrical configuration, with the tweeter in the centre and the woofers arranged directly above and below it. This reproduces a perfect and clear sound, seeming to emanate from a single point.

Should you require all of this clarity and depth at a low level, the new ‘Whisper-mode Surround’ feature ensures none of the surround effect is lost. With this function, turning down the volume does not mean turning down the entertainment experience. The sound quality is retained by compensating for the sound pressure level of the low-frequency component (which contains the signals that affect the surround effect). Therefore rich sound, crisp and clear, continues to flow around you. With a complete premium sound quality and features that make it ideal for all occasions, you can expect that throughout the day or night, your entertainment system provides you with the most fantastic sound.

Additionally, via the USB port on the Home Cinema System, you can enjoy your music of from USB portable audio players.

music playbackiPod® Music Playback and On-Screen Music Menu
Whilst other companies provide sound systems that merely playback the music from an iPod®, the advanced Panasonic AV technology offers you much more. Imagine enjoying your movies and video podcasts, directly from your iPod®, on a large VIERA HDTV screen! Panasonic Home Cinema Systems provide complete connectivity and compatibility so that you can even use the Home Cinema or VIERA TV remote control to browse and choose playlists, song titles, artists (et al) and playback your selections with title information from your iPod®.

Home Cinema Systems with wireless rear speakers
Panasonic Home Cinema systems connectivity technology also means that there is no need for bothersome speaker wires. Some Panasonic Home Theatre Systems, like the SC-PT467, are equipped with wireless rear speakers. This cinema sound system transmits the audio signals by radio waves so there is no need to clutter up your room space with cables running from the main unit to the rear speakers. The signal is not interrupted by walking through the room or blocked by furniture.

In short, with a Panasonic Home Cinema System, it’s easy for you to enjoy your entertainment, such as music, podcasts and video content, with superior sound and top-quality VIERA HD large screen TV!

VIERA Link - Bringing control of all your AV Devices to just one fingertip
So what is VIERA link? Well, before we explain what it is, lets look at how people currently have to operate their AV products. Suppose you want to watch the latest film on Blu-ray disc - to do that, first you would have to power up the Blu-ray player with your Blu-ray remote control, then turn on your TV and select the correct AV channel input using your TV remote. After that you would need to switch back to the Blu-ray player remote control and press 'Play'.

Oh, wait! What if you have have a Home Cinema Surround system too? Then you need to search for the Home Cinema remote in order to to switch on your AV Amplifier too. Therefore before you can do something seemingly simple like settle back to watch a film, you are forced to use three completely different remote controls! Sounds like a lot of bother, right? Well, Viera Link allows you to do all of this with just one remote control!

VIERA Link works by making full use of the capabilities of the emerging de-facto High Definition connection standard, HDMI. Jointly developed by Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi, Philips, Toshiba and some others, HDMI is the first and only digital interface to combine uncompressed high-definition video and multi-channel audio in a single digital cable. For end-users, the fact that just a single cable carries audio and video signals dramatically simplifies the installation of home theater systems and eliminates the cable quagmires of the past!

VIERA link is now takes this convenience to the next level by enabling users to use the same HDMI cables to also transmit control signals between different devices. What that means is you get universal control of all your HDMI home theater equipment, without having to worry about trying to figure out which remote control to use. Just point the VIERA remote at your TV, and the signal will travel over the HDMI wires to the right piece of equipment, whether it be a Blu-ray or DVD player or Home Cinema Surround system.

The effect? Lets take another look at the example we discussed at the begnning: watching a film on Blu-ray. Using VIERA link, you simply press 'play' on your Blu-ray player, and the TV and surround system will automatically switch-on and set themselves to the correct AV input channels. Just by pressing one single button on one remote control. Sit back and relax - your film is starting!

    Good kit....4
This is a good home cinema, I do agree with other reviews of this as some things are a bit of a let down.
The way its all been set up could have been easier, the LG one I had that this replaced I didnt have to look at the instructions to use it for anything it was that straight forward, but this is a bit of a pain at times. However the sound, look and once you have sussed how it all works its a good piece of kit and I would recommend it. Its a good price here I found some other sites selling it at £300. I have my PS3,Ipod and Sky+ running through it and they all sound great. Buy it, give it some time learn how to use it and set it up right, you should't be disappointed..... Until your 18month old finds the Ipod dock.... These are Dad's gadgets back to your room.... He's at it again as I type this review.... Kids...

    Great quality but poor features3
I just purchased the SC-PT470 and find that the sound and picture quality is very good but as said by J. Hood, also very loud! Very disappointed that there is no auto scale option to scale my 4:3 movies, this has to be manually selected from the player setup menu and is frustrating. No remote eject button and no time remaining counter. It has a whisper mode that can level out the sound and keep surround effects at lower volume and is welcome. The equaliser options also can help and there is a voice enhance function to make speech louder. Overall I have mixed feelings. Good quality but very basic function.

    Good system all round4
So far i've been quite impressed with this surround system, nice clear sound, quite powerful and has plenty of connections. Got it hooked up to a Freesat box via Phono cables and an Xbox 360 via Optical and the sound is excellent from both. Obviously the Xbox has the advantage of Optical as it can output real 5.1 surround but even the simulated surround from TV programs is good.

An included feature that was very useful when setting it up is a little conical microphone, which picks up the sound from each speaker and adjusts the volume for you - handy for when the room size or shape stops you from having the "perfect" surround setup.

The equalising system takes a more pre-defined approach by letting you choose from 4 or 5 EQ settings (clear, soft, heavy, flat..) and then the subwoofer has 4 power levels. Aside from that there's Whisper Mode and Centre Focus which are both useful at low volumes. Generally it seems only the more expensive systems let you alter bass/treble manually, so for it's price the PT470 has good middle ground.

Also the rear speaker cables are 5 metres / 16 feet long, but it's not difficult to extend them if required.. same goes for many other systems though.

Visually, DVD's look good (even on my cheap telly!)
