Manufacturer's Description
Full-HD NeoPDP Models with built-in freesat, Superb Moving Picture Quality and Advanced Networking Capabilities
The new Panasonic G10 Plasma range offers high-image-quality functions that will appeal to movie fans and gamers alike, along with a host of networking functions that will enhance the experience.
The High Definition G10 range with freesat built-in is a convenient and easy way to view over 140 digital TV and radio channels including brilliant HD programmes from the BBC and ITV - all for free. Freesat offers subscription-free HD services, gives you super fast digital text, as well as digital subtitles and audio description and as the freesat service is satellite based, further capacity for the expansion of HD services can be assured.
Neo PDP
With its next-generation plasma display panel (PDP) called NeoPDP this range offers better picture quality, higher efficiency and thinner dimensions than its predecessors. With this series, Panasonic has developed new phosphors and cell design technology for improved discharge and new circuit and drive technology to significantly reduce power loss.
As a result, Panasonic has improved motion image performance, contrast and colour reproduction in its plasma displays to achieve a level of picture quality that is simply unprecedented. To improve motion images, this series adopts Panasonic's 600Hz Sub-field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro, which helps achieve 1080 line motion picture resolution. Even fast-moving objects are clear and sharp. Users enjoy a truly stunning viewing experience, especially with ultra-dynamic action and sports scenes such as motor car racing events and car chases.
This series also delivers a dynamic contrast of over 2,000,000:1 thanks to the increased brightness achieved by NeoPDP technology and refinements to Panasonic's Real Black Drive System. With these enhancements, the new models provide the kind of "infinite black" colour that pulls viewers right into the picture.
The 600-Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data, then optimises the sub-field to display fast-action scenes in full-HD resolution. And each frame is displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce after-effects.
VIERA link
Panasonic's VIERA system incorporates an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system combines with NeoPDP technology to achieve next-generation black reproduction. When you're watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it's difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark.
VIERA Link allows interconnected operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable. VIERA Link performance has been further enhanced with LUMIX digital camera connection. By connecting a new LUMIX camera that has an HDMI output terminal to VIERA, you can use the VIERA remote to control the playback of images stored on the camera.
It's easy to view full-HD images with the SD Memory Card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into VIERA to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. You can also choose from among 3 types of background music and 4 display effects.
V-Audio Surround gives depth-sound-image effect by early-reflection data based on actual room measurement, that is generated from digital signal processor.

Excellent picture quality
Having bought the TX-P42G10 over a week ago I am very impressed with the standard definition picture via a Sky box. This is better than the Sony CRT we previously owned and has me wondering whether it is worth upgrading to Sky HD. I haven't been able to test Freesat as the connection into the standard Sky box does not fit the Freesat connection. Picture via Blue ray is stunning and the sound is better than I expected, having read some other reviews.
The only downside is the constant noise of the fans which can't be heard when watching action movies but at normal listening levels is distracting. Although it is not loud I am regularly aware of it and had I known this, I may have had second thoughts about buying.
Update:
After running in the TV for a short while, the fans are now much less intrusive and I have been able to connect the sky cable to the Freesat input - the HD quality is first rate.
Truly sublime
I bought this television to replace an LCD model whose motion handling jitters had driven me to distraction. But I got a whole lot more than I bargained for. Apart from its legendary handling of fast moving objects the Panasonic also delivers the most gorgeous palette of colours. It's a 42 inch kaleidoscope. The blacks are deep and the contrast is stunning. These are the very ingredients required to make a picture look natural. I confess that the screen does give something away to the best LCD's in terms of image sharpness and detail. For my money that is an acceptable price to pay in order to get pictures that are so lifelike that you literally get sucked into the drama.
The television does have another drawback though. I found the sound quality to be distinctly ordinary. It's perfectly fine for watching Sky News or GMTV, but I doubt many movie watchers would consider the built-in speakers to be serviceable. I bit the bullet and bought a home cinema system to go with it. Problem solved.
In short it is easily a five star performer in my book, especially for those already sold on plasma.
New Panny does exactly what it says on the tin!
I recently purchased the new Panasonic TX-P42G10B from Amazon. My first word of warning to anyone looking for a new TV from Panasonic is to research which one you like and check which have won the awards. Then be sure you actually buy the one you want. The reason for this warning is that the Panny model numbers are all very similar and you could end up owning a cheaper model that you didnt really want and is not the same quality or doesnt have full HD etc.
I was fortunate in that Amazon made this mistake and I got the
TX-P42G10B for less than half of the price, not a mistake they will make again I bet!
With regards to the plasma it is excellent, it has a superb picture and very good sound quality. The picture set up sets itself up and once the Freeasat is connected to a satellite dish the HD picture quality is stunning. I connected mine to my sky dish, replacing a quad LNB with a Wistron Octo LNB also available online from Amazon.
Please note that HD channels on freesat are still very limited but hopefully will increase in time?
We are certainly very pleased with this purchase and I would have no hestitation in recommending you buy this tv.
