Manufacturer's Description
THE VIERA MISSION 2008
When Panasonic first introduced their award-winning VIERA range of televisions, the aim was to give consumers the pinnacle of a viewing experience – an experience so real, so true-to-life, that viewers would unwittingly feel themselves to be almost part of the on-screen action. Now in 2008, the year of the summer Olympic Games, no other company is better placed and able to deliver every second of the action from the stadia into your living room than Panasonic. Panasonic has been responsible for relaying the Olympics to our homes for the past 20 years. Since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Panasonic has exclusively provided professional broadcast cameras, editing consoles, monitors, and recording media to the international Olympic Broadcast Centres which beam images of the games around the world. 2008 will mark the first time that the entire production of an Olympic games will be done in High Definition – meaning that viewers will be able to experience all the events with unparalleled clarity and crispness thanks to Panasonic technology. Thanks to Panasonic HD technology and the highly developed motion technologies in our VIERA TVs, millions of people around the world will be able to follow the ceremony and the proceeding games as intensely as if they were there in person – without missing a moment!
![]() | FUL-HD PANELS HD Signal Quality Directly Reflected in Picture Quality With its 1920 x 1080p resolution, VIERA Full-HD panel displays beautiful images without needing to perform pixel conversion for the 1080p video signals processed by the video circuitry. Panasonic offers the full-HD panel in 32-inch and larger models. You can enjoy images with stunning detail and beauty not only from HD broadcasts, but from Blu-ray and HD Gaming sources as well. |
![]() | V-Real All VIERA TVs are equipped with the Panasonic award-winning V-Real picture technology which perfectly optimises the performance of the display panel to render smooth, crystal-clear motion without compromising on delicate colours with rich graduation. Our 2008 models are equipped with V-Real PRO 3 for Full HD, and V-Real 3 for HD-Ready TVs. |
![]() | IPS ALPHA PANELS Many LCDs suffer from colour wash-out when not viewed from directly in front – a big problem if you have a large family trying to watch a film together. However the latest generation of IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, manufactured in-house by Panasonic, builds on years of experience with industry leading wide viewing angle technology, providing an unrivalled LCD TV viewing experience. New generation (or "alpha") IPS provides the widest viewing angle possible with the least colour washout, even when viewed from the side. Our LCD panels are built on the strengths of IPS by delivering faster response time and reproducing intense realistic deep black levels and contrast ratios, especially when employed with Panasonic Intelligent Scene Controller technology. |
![]() | WIDE 178 DEGREE VIEWING VIERA LCD IPS alpha panels have a viewing angle of 178 degrees both vertically and horizontally, eliminating faded images that can occur by viewing the panel from certain seating positions. The extra-wide viewing angle makes VIERA LCDs perfect when watching TV with the entire family or a group of friends. |
![]() | 24P PLAYBACK - 24P REAL CINEMA When reproducing a 24p movie source, the 24p Real Cinema function generates smooth motion transition based on the original 24 frames. Models that do not include 24p Real Cinema are equipped with 24p Playback. The 24p Playback function provides cinema-like images by using a pull-down up to 96Hz. |
![]() | SDHC CARD READER VIEW YOUR PHOTOS ON VIERA’S BEAUTIFUL SCREEN – Just insert an SD or SDHC Memory Card into the slot on your VIERA TV, and your high-definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) 16:9 digital photos fill the large screen. Very Nice TV
This is my 1st LCD TV, after stepping up from a good'old Panny WS CRT, and wow is it nice and visually pretty slick. Set-up was a breeze picking up the 70+ freeview channels instantly.
My PS3 takes full advantage utilitising 1 of the 3 HDMI ports and looks impressive at 1080P with crystal clear images and text, Blu-Ray/Sky HD looks awesome on this TV to. Xbox360 via component sockets is equally good looking running at 1080i and is great for GTAIV/GH3. Dont have a Wii so cant comment on SD (standard def) gaming.
Motion is handled very well with no ghosting/blurring in games, films or TV. Colours are vivid and can be adjusted to taste, dynamic is alittle excessive if you ask me. Blacks are v.good for an LCD with plenty of detail (tho im used to a CRT), Whites are bright, no flicker. The backlight is v.good, it can be a little uneven at times in certain corners but does equal out through use, and is not a problem in normal viewing as its very faint and not noticable on anything but a totally blank black screen (in a dark room).
DVD's look very good, and the upscaling works very well and looks sharp and clean. Sky SD channels equally are v.nice.
The built-in Freeview tuner for me is actually very good considering its being upscaled to 1080P from 576. Being in an area of good reception, the picture is pretty sharp (depending on the source and age of the program, BBC1 Live/New progs are very clear, while your ITV4 1970's show are, well you can guess). Fast motion is handled very well (watching the euro2008 footy), theres little pixalation (tho small players on a green field screen still have a pixalation around them if you look 'real' close. Tones/colour are v.good, but can look abit smoothed at times - I guess this is down to freeviews signal quality and digital compression as much as anything else... But all in all the image is great when at the proper viewing distance. The EPG isnt bad either and is clear and quick. Oh and theres a sleep timer too (incr. of 15mins)
No problems with using the TV via the sky controller (though it was set-up for my old panny TV which appears to use the same settings). The Panny controller is good with nice large solid buttons. Note the infra-red on the TV is in the far bottom left corner so dont block it.
You have 4 Picture Mode settings Dynamic/Normal/Cinema/Eco each of which can be adjusted, bri/con/color/noise_red settings for each Mode are used across all channels/sources, though the TV will remember your Mode of choice for each source.
Only issue I had was a random v.faint buzz which was solved by placing a small bit of foam at the back over the offending spot.
I havent tried the included SD picture card port/viewer so cant comment.
Overall very happy with this purchase, is a great TV for HD games systems/blu-ray and sky HD, Sky SD and dvd's are very clear and freeview is good as well. The sound produced is pretty good too. Recommended! Note the price of this does seem to fluctuate on a daily basis so remember Amazons awesome 30day price-change refund policy, saved me £90!
Wow!
So i've just got myself a TX37LZD85....
And i'm a very very happy bunny. I'm running SD through it & watching std DVD's & it handles what ever you throw at it easily...I can't stress enough that the distance thing makes such a difference i'm 10ft away from the screen and it is perfect.
Set up was simple - plug n play. I haven't had to tweek the settings too much. I recommend the 'cinema' setting with a little brightness to watch the football & the same setting for DVD. I like simple...I'm watching the Chels/Liverpool game now on sky1 and i'm really impressed with the motion pictures... NO BLUR at all!
Can't wait for the Panny SCBT-100 to come out for the icing for the icing on the cake.
PS... the blacks are great, i've just watched 'the brave one' DVD which is noir in places & the blacks are superb. I had it set on cinema setting but added a bit of brightness. TAKE THE PLUNGE!!!!
Stunning hi-def, good standard-def
We've now had our TX-37LZD85 for a month, and we're very pleased with it. The picture quality playing PS3 games and Blu-Ray discs is absolutely stunning, although there are some issues - as there always are - with fast, complex or low quality standard def images. Colour contrast is strong (occasionally a bit too strong). There is some fringeing around the edges of, for instance, footballers and athletes, and the TV had problems with the water during the Olympic rowing. But this is to be expected - the image is by no means poor, and I expect things will be much better once we've upgraded to Sky HD.
Overall, we're really pleased with the TV - it's definitely one of the best performing sets I've seen, and represents excellent value for money.
