Customer Reviews
Other criticism a bit harsh?
Not necessarily here, but in other locations I have seen quite scathing reviews of this game, so I thought I'd put in the counter-argument. I bought this game just after buying Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3, not because I was desperate to have more gaming fun, but rather because I got bored with those other two games. 'Open world' and 'sandbox' gameplay man be buzzwords at the moment, and I did fall for it, but having tried this approach I very quickly decided I actually want some proper linear game play, with an actual story and a plot that plays out in a logical sequence. Quite frankly I like being led down a specific path that tells me a story as it goes. It's like being part of a movie, instead of having to direct my own action.
This game has also been accused of being too simple and too hard by various people. I find normal difficulty works for me, easy works for the kids. Hard is hard (shocker!).
All in all, I've enjoyed this only slightly less than Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty 4, and actually I'd say this is an interesting mix of both. Worth every penny.
Launch Titles Rule!
I actually got this with the ps3 or would never have touched it. SOOOOO glad I did! This is one of the best games I have ever played. Immersive story line, great slow reveals of locations and enemies. And seeing parts of the world I know laid low by the Chimera was a real thrill...
In all honesty the graphics are only ok by newer ps3 standards and the sound is not particularly stereo / 360degrees but the plot and gameplay keep in working. There are some really tough bits in the middle of levels but they shouldn't take more than a couple of goes. And there is even some replay value... I ordered the sequel the day it came out (and to be honest it's even better), the last game that I awaited that eagerly was Zelda on the N64.
At the current price? Totally worth it.
Very well done, but difficult
Maybe it's just me but Resistance I seems quite difficult.
I frequently got stuck because I was killed and that reduced some gaming pleasure resulting in leaving it in the rack for some time until I had the energy and will to take up the challenge again...
Nevertheless, the platinum edition is worth buying (price pays off after all) Graphics are also good on a normal 4:3 non-HD TV screen
