judo for mma4
I would recomend this book but not for your first of this kind, i would recommend the fedor book which gives you much more solid and efficient examples for takedowns/throws/sweeps/subs and striking if your a beginner or first time buyer.

this is not to say the fedor book is for beginners!!!.

However if this is a passion/goal to learn how to adapt your judo or simply learn some judo for mma it is very usefull, although i feel that the book may be slightley over filled.

this is because some of the throws seem overly flashy (as i have never trained or read another judo book) and seem like only a advanced judo player could pull them off,(only my opinon)

and if tried in mma would be very risky as there seems to be to many parts to some technique and seem to leave your face exposed for strikes.

However there is a big selection of technique throughout the book that is very good, they are solid techniques which seem very efficient and likely to work straight off which shows there effectiveness.(especially in the main section on throws...obviousley!!)

However there are some good examples of ground work which are judo based and also seem very achivable in mma as they are solid simplistic techniques.

As i have said there is alot of techniques in this book, some very good and some not so (in my opinion!)- although if you really want to learn judo or further your skills this book really is for you and all the technique you will proberly find very usefull.

Excellent presentation of practical judo5
Any judoka wanting to startle the lads in his next randori session should buy this. Don't be put off by the price - it's an A4 size book with colour step-by-step photos. You won't struggle to figure out which limbs belong to which judoka, the usual problem with black and white. Also, Karo's techniques are very practical, but totally judo-based, so they are all useable in randori. I've turned my 25s holds into submissions. Very useable stuff. Top recommendation.

Excellent learning tool for MMA5
This book is one of the highest quality martial arts books I've seen. It's large format, nearly 300 pages long and filled with clear colour photos showing each technique step-by-step.

It's written by an American, so some of the terminology is a little strange at times (British fighters don't usually talk of whizzers, for example) but this is only a minor hiccup. I would never pay £27.50 for a book but if you can get this for under £20, it's certainly a wise investment for the beginner or journeyman mixed martial artist.
