Synopsis
THE GREAT STILLNESS is Volume 2 in The Water Method of Taoist Mediation series. The big challenge in the preparatory phase of Taoist meditation is learning to concentrate on what you are doing for an extended time without becoming distracted. One of the best ways to achieve relaxed concentration is through Taoist breathing exercises. These form the building blocks of the Taoist internal martial arts, yoga, meditation and chi gung.

Excellent!
Here in volume 2 of the Water Method of Taoist Meditation 'the Great Stillness' Bruce Frantzis continues to instruct the reader in the profound depths of this ancient system. Learnt first hand from his teacher Liu Hung Chieh a Taoist Master living in mainland China Mr Frantzis brings to the west a much needed antidote to the stresses and strains of modern living. Demystifing the necessary steps to fulfillment in the Taoist practices He instructs plainly and clearly without resort to cliche or jargon. Interspersed with inspiring anecdotes and personal experiences this makes for an moving journey of discovery and a great read. From my own perspective and experience as a Tai Chi Instructor and Yoga Teacher these methods although sometimes demanding, work well and are suitable for the novice to the seasoned practitioner.
If you are serious about spiritual advancement, deeper levels of attainment, energy development ,or simply stress relief and management this book is for you. A great addition to anyone's libary this is a must have. I highly recommend it.
Meditation in depth
Basically a tuition book with history and insights into the life of his teacher, history of the arts and other material. Shoud be followed after reading and working through the companion book 'Relaxing into your being'. The information offered is undoubtedly top notch but access to a well qualified teacher would be advisable. Years of work in the two volumes and an exciting journey for those willing to put in the effort.
Well, you do need a teacher
I'm sorry, this is an excellent book describing Taoist meditation but you DO need a teacher for this. Even more so for the physical practices - how are you supposed to know if you're doing them right. I bought this book and Opening the Energy Gates a few years ago and I have to advise you: FIND A TEACHER YOU ARE ESSENTIALLY WASTING YOUR MONEY ON BOOKS. That said, they are really good books and I don't doubt Bruce's credentials. If only I could spend a year working with him.
