Average customer review:Product Description
"Black Belt" offers judo practitioners a comprehensive illustrated manual to the sport, taking them beyond the basic holds, throws and groundwork techniques, and exploring in detail the more advanced techniques (arm locks, joint locks, strangleholds etc.). Part 1 of the book covers the fundamentals of the sport, including its history and development, as well as the philosophy that underpins judo. Part 2 focuses on throwing techniques, and Part 3 looks at grappling techniques on the ground, including escapes and defences. The focus throughout is on developing and improving technique, particularly for competition. Each hold or technique features step-by-step photographs showing correct stance and technique and offering key points and tips. "Black Belt" is aimed at readers with some experience of judo, but is certain to appeal to all skill levels.

Customer Reviews
Great pictures and thorough data make this a must
Neil Ohlenkamp has managed to combine superior, clear photography and thorough, detailed explanations for huge number of techniques to a reasonable size book.
I liked the detailed pictures showing hand positions and the fact that he shows a number of variations for most throws. The variations show competition oriented and some rarely seen ways of doing the same throw. This enchances the learning experience guite a bit.
There is lot to read and learn about the principles behind the various waza so this book is a definite buy both for beginner and serious practitioner.
Best of all the paper is good and the price was low, so highly recommended.
Same Book as Judo Unleashed
This is a reasonable addition to your library, though why its called Black Belt in hardback v's Judo Unleashed I have no idea.
Judo Unleashed is cheaper so unless you really want a hardback ??
I've now got 2 copies of the same book :( + theres no obvious way to tell from Amazon web site.
