Customer Reviews
Bruce Lee- Jeet Kune Do
this DVD is a great learning aid which, although far from definitive, has some great live footage aswell as some great insight from Dan Inosanto.
Although i would give this 5 stars this rating is from my point of view i.e. how much it helped me. However this will fluctuate; all the begginer will get is a good JKD history-but as you improve this DVD can be watched again and the live footage will teach you something new. its real worth is in the live footage of Bruce Lee and James Coburn. The teaching of the side kick helped me a lot along with seeing bruce lee execute a lead jab while teaching(during which his footwork was something i had never fully picked up on until then).
If you feel you need to improve your footwork then Dan inosanto covers the basic movement well. this DVD is the best on JKD. just don't expect it to be definitive- its only got 120 minutes. hovever with the "bruce lee's fighting method" series of books this helps provide a marvellous basic foundation of JKD as long as its coupled with learning in mixed martial arts/ JKD classes.
hope this helps.
Great Content, Poor Quality
Firstly, the actual content of this is fantastic. It includes vintage interviews with Bruce describing his philosophy, along with training videos taken of him training, and of some of his students under his instruction. The interviews with Dan Insosanto and Taky Kimura are very enlightening.
However. I've had 2 copies of this DVD with exactly the same problem - the video is "jittery" throughout a lot of the disc, and freezes completely on occasion. This occurred on different sections, not just vintage home video, so wasn't just poor quality originals. The problems were occurring in the same locations on both discs, both of which were new buys. I examined the digital files, thinking that it might be poor quality discs, but unfortunately it seemed to be a problem with the digital content rather than the discs themselves. Audio quality was fine throughout. 2 players were tried with exactly the same problems in the same places, and both played other discs ok.
The quality issues were a real shame, as this was bought for my gf who practices JKD. The jittering and freezing made it a chore to watch, as I was constantly removing the disc, skipping sections, rewinding etc, which really devalued this.
If the quality had been watchable, I would have awarded it 5 stars and a glowing review for the content, which was amazing. Unfortunately, poor production means it's for the hardcore only, and I took it back for a refund.
Fantastic
I suppose I miss out on some of this content do to the fact that I do not practice martial arts myself. Having said that, this is a facinating DVD with great footage of both Bruce Lee and also James Coburn. There is pleanty of interviews and information and awsome Jeet Kune Do action to keep anyone satisfied.
This is actually a really fascniating insight into Jeet Kune Do and also Bruce Lee.
