Essential Exercises for Health And Enlightenment
Rou Quan is a famous traditional Shaolin form which helps ease the stress of modern living. As well as improving mental and physical health, this thirty-six-movement form can also be used in self-defence. Shifu Yan Lei takes you step by step through this dynamic form, explaining each movement in detail and demonstrating some of the self-defence techniques that are hidden within the movements. A combination of internal and external techniques, it helps to balance the yin and the yang energies and leads to higher states of mind and body health.

Being the proud owner of all three excellent Yan Lei Shaolin Warrior DVDs, I was expecting great things from this. However I must say that it is very very average.

The performance of the form is stilted and Yan Lei himself doesn't seem to be an expert. He is far too stiff to be able to perform this relaxed, flowing form effectively.

In addition, there are constant repetitions of the form which fill up around 30-40 minutes of the hour this DVD runs for. The tutorial itself, which occupies a paltry portion of the DVD, involves only slowing down the movements so they can be copied. There is little verbal instruction
