A Shaolin Monk In Your Living Room5
Shifu (Master) Yan Lei uses the exercises taught to novices at the Shaolin Temple in China, to show you how to tone your body, increase fitness, build flexibility and focus your mind.

A trumped-up kickboxing routine1
There is little, if any traditional Shaolin techniques here. The Shaolin Warrior 1+2 DVDs are excellent and teach traditional punches and kicks and a small number of very basic forms.

However, I was devastated to see the direction that the third DVD in the series took. The techniques taught in this DVD will teach you how to fight, and will give you an excellent cardio kickboxing workout, but they are lacking in substance.

Sadly this emphasis on 'sanshou' is the general direction taken by the official Shaolin Temple, (in London at least). It is a shame for those who want to learn the subtle, and extremely rich techniques of the traditional longfist styles.

If Yan Lei produces a DVD on the traditional forms that he must have learned during his training, I will snap it up. His DVD teaching style is excellent.
